Evolution cutting off in mid flight
I need some help from you guys. I have an Evololution 58 that is new about 4 flights ago. The plane cut off in mid flight well after we got it down. I noticed that I had not cut out the cowl large enough for the spark plug wire and the fiberglass rubbed a small cut in the side of the wire (just insulation). I also noticed that the spark plug was loose. I took it home and fixed the wire with a small amount of silicone and tape. Flew the plane once today and short flight did fine but the motor cut off in midlevel flight at half throttle three times in a row. Battery fine, switch fine and repair to the wire looked ok. Could the hole in the wire be causing this or do I need to check something else? It's like the motor quits just like you turn off a switch which is not happening. Any suggestions would help. Thanks, Danny C

RE: Evolution cutting off in mid flight
well an engine needs air (think we have that), fuel ( how is that clunk?), and spark (did the plug loosen up again?)
How long are you flying for? Dont know how you are flying... but could it be after a tumble or inverted flight that your clunk is a bit too long and getting caught? |
RE: Evolution cutting off in mid flight
Plug was tight ,clunk is ok. Both cutoffs were about 4 min into the flight The motor did not sound like it went lean (runing out of fuel)
it just sounded like someone hit the kill switch which I do not have. As for flying the guy that was flying it was putting it through it's paces inverted, knife edge, harrer, rolls ect . |
RE: Evolution cutting off in mid flight
Where did you mount the ignition?? Could it be getting hot after 4min of flying and quiting on you?? As mentioned earlier, start with the basics first.

RE: Evolution cutting off in mid flight
The ignition is on the out side of the motor box it was 47 degrees today heat should not have been an issue. I will dig into it after work tomorow. Tks Danny C

Try richening the low end screw a bit. Your problem sounds just like the one that I had, after a few minutes of flight the engine was quitting in the air, and when a did the richening up on the low end screw my problem was solved and now my engine is running like a champ. It doesn’t hurt to try. Just my .02
