Engine v's Engine Help!
Hi,
I will soon buy either a QQ 86" Yak or a EF 88" Yak, my question is what engine for either plane (for all out 3D) MVVS45 or DA50? Assuming both will run a pitts muffler. I am not trying to start a war here, just get some performance/operation feedback, in relation to either airframe. Thanks in advance for your help, C. |
RE: Engine v's Engine Help!
Loaded question!!!!!
I like the DA 50R BUT I'm going to put a Brillelli 366GT "60cc" on my EF 88" Yak |

The QQ 86" is fitted out for a cannister muffler, and the MVVS 45 needs a cannister it will not produce full power with a pitts type muffler, gained 1100rpm with the cannister. Mike |
RE: Engine v's Engine Help!
Hi BaldEagle,
Thanks for the info, I know the QQ has a tunnel (I think that the EF will also). Did not know that the MVVS needed a pipe, was under the impression that a pitts would be fine. Does the DA benefit from a cannister? (not concerned with noise) Assuming both engines have a cannister, which one is the best choice for the aircraft in question? Thanks! C. |
RE: Engine v's Engine Help!
Personally I would be holding off to see the video of the Brillelli 60 on a pipe.
If you look at the extremeflight site you will see video with the DA 50 on a pipe.. the B 60 will be even better. MOst engines gain 300-500+ rpm on a pipe. edit: Here is the link to the build thread.. ( should be done tonight ) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5342415/tm.htm |
RE: Engine v's Engine Help!
A guy in my club had a QQ yak with a DA 50 and wrap around pitts. It was an awesome flying airplane. Which reminds me, Make sure your servo arm screws are tight and secured![X(]

RE: Engine v's Engine Help!
They're both good choices. Pick the one that works out the lightest and the least expensive when all is said and done.
