G-26 Engine Mounting
Hi all. I will be mounting my first gas engine ( G-26 ) shortly and would like some suggestions as to the best way to go about this as it is totally different than my glow engines.
Thanks P. J |

p.j,
You'll have to use "Stand-Offs" which are nothing but a round spacer made of aluminum or wood with a hole through the middle allowing a bolt to pass through. These are made to the length you need to have your spinner backplate at the proper distance from the cowling. Here is an example. http://www.litepilots.com/enginestandoff.htm |

But... you'll only need stand-offs if you need to move the engine forward for cowl clearance. I have mounted a few G26's with only spacers to give the correct thrust angle. The attached picture shows this better.

Birddog-RCU,
You are correct. I have a Brillelli 26cc mounted straight to the engine box on a CMP Giles 202. If it works out to be the proper distance to the back plate no stand-offs are required. There's always more than one way to skin a cat :). |
RE: G-26 Engine Mounting
And the more cats you have the better :D

RE: G-26 Engine Mounting
Thanks for the info. guys. I was wondering about using blind nuts on inside of the firewall the same as for glow engines . The flat mounting plate on the back of the 26 has four threaded holes in it leading me to believe the boltheads should be on the back of the firewall , is this the nonmal way to put the bolts on a gas engine , not very convenient .
Thanks P. J |
RE: G-26 Engine Mounting
I prefer blind nuts on the inside myself. The flat plate I have doesn't have threads as it was modified from the original. I don't like having to go inside the fuse to mount an engine either. I've done it a few times but don't prefer that method.

RE: G-26 Engine Mounting
I drill out the threaded holes to a slightly larger size, and use blind nuts and lock washers.

p.j,
I always put the bolts from the inside and use fender washers. I guess if you have a smaller plane that uses a standard firewall and not an engine box it may be a little harder. The way I see it, it's what ever works best for you. |

8/32 or 10/32 hex head bolts thru the engine into blind nuts in the firewall.
