Does it come with spark advance ignition? What prop and rpms are you geting out of it? Thanks
|
Bme 50 ?
It comes with a CH Syncrospark....which is a microprocessor controlled spark advance.
Sorry..I haven't run the motor yet. There have been RPM numbers posted by other people somewhere. I'll try and find them for you. Chris |
Bme 50 ?
Chris,
That looks like an Aeroworks 29% Edge. What was the finished weight with the BME? |
Bme 50 ?
Yes, it is an AW 29% Edge. It's not finished yet so I can't tell you a weight. Sorry.
Don't you have an AW edge too? Or am I mistaken? |

Yup,
Only mine has a Brisson 3.2. About 14lbs dry weight. |
Bme 50 ?
14 pounds.....with a brison? Wow thats really good, my friend has the same setup and his came in at 16.5...including the weight needing to balance. He wasn't too happy but it flies great, I flew it yesterday. My 29% will have the BME 50, like Chris'. Will start covering at the end of the week....hopefully flying in a coupla more weeks. Keep us posted Chris.

16 &1/2 lbs!!
I have not heard of one coming out this heavy. Most guys are around 15 to 15 1/4 with the 3.2 built stock. Is he using double receivers and batteries? Why did he add weight? Did he use a lot of epoxy sheeting the wings? There really is only few oz between the BME with mount, muffler, plug ect. & the Brison with muffler/plug ect. Here are the only things I did to loose weight. Spinner back plate lightened (see previous pic) Carbon fiber push rods Carbon fiber axels Removed some aluminum from LG Lightened some of the Ply pieces Got rid of the wing bolts Used polyurethane for sheeting (biggest weight savings) Mini high torque servos for throttle & choke. 1-1000ma batt for ign 1-1700ma batt for rec |
Bme 50 ?
My friend is using two 1650 mah NiMh RX batteries but thats about it. He used polyeurathane glue for the wings, CF pushrods and CF flying wires. He also has two rudder servos in the tail. I hope mine doesn't turn out so heavy....we'll see.

Bme 50 ?
I was of the impression that the BME 50 was a bored 44. If it is then it's based on the Echo/Kioritz.

engine Question
RCIGN: Do you know what product the BME 44 or 50 originates from? Thanks captin John
|
Bme 50 ?
My friend re-weighed his Edge (more accurately) and it came in at 15# 12oz....and that is with two rudder servos, two battery packs and 2.5 oz of weight to balance. I'm sure the balance weight will be gone soon because he is quickly becoming comfortable with it and wants the CG back. Pics of mine when its done.......hopefully very soon. Ordered the graphics package today.

Have any of you guys weighed your BME 50s with ignition? I was wondering what the total was. Thanks

BME Singles
The BME singles--the 44 & 50--are Echo chainsaws. The 44cc engine is from a CS-44, so I would guess the 50 is from the CS-50. They sell the 44 short blocks separate at lawn & power shops, but they are nearly $300. By the time you add the carb, ignition and prop hub, you are close to the cost of a BME, but without the warranty.
If you want to convert a cheap engine, go with the Poulan 46. It's very close to the same weight and power, but can often be found on Ebay for under $150. I've got a whole page on Engine Conversions.... I've weighed my BME 44 and Brison 2.4 side by side, but don't remember the exact numbers. I do, however, remember that the BME was 5 ounces lighter. The Brison 3.2 is 1/2-3/4 pound heavier still. Kieth says the 50 is only 3oz heavier than the 44. Cliff http://www.rcfaq.com |

Hey Chris 540, Thats my Edge that you used for the throttle linkage pic.(the orange one) Its a bme 44, not a 50 but the throttle is the same anyway. Its an airwild Edge 540t that I flew last year. It was 15 lbs with the bme and flew great. I put over 200 flights on it before I sold it. I now use a bme 50 in a pica spitfire. They are great little engines and very powerfull for their size and weight.

engines
cgriffin: Do you know if Echo has a leafblower engine also that might make a good coversion? Sounds like the 50cc chainsaw engine is a good one. I have heard that the blower engines are balanced better (smoother) . What is your findings? Thank you and Best regards Captin John

Bme 50 ?
The leaf blowers are heavier--it's obvious just by looking at them. They look more like a Zen G45. Other than that, I don' know nuthin'.
