RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
Jon,
Have you by any chance checked the pop off pressure? I think it would be safe to say that you have a fuel delivery problem. I am also fighting a small tuning issue but I watched another engine run without the issue that I have. The carb is the one thing most of the engine builders don't have much control over. |
RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
If I may.
I'd look more to the needle tuning before delving into the carb. The 110 is pretty sensitive to very small changes in the needle settings and it's likely that the mixture has hit both sides of the sweet spot without actually being there. There is a pretty wide spread between the low and high in pop off pressure and it's not very often that's an issue. |
RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
Walbro will make a carb for anyone's engine, most companies are satisfied with the closest one that works....
It's all about the bottom line  They make thousands of variations...Tillotson carbs on 3W engines come with a special cover that has a built in fitting for the snorkel... |
RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
From talking to an engine builder the pop off pressure seems to have little affect on how most engines run, just that the needles have to be either screwed in or out more depending on the pressure.

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
Jon, just curious, have you temped it immediately after landing? I found my 110 liked to run hotter than my 115, around 240 on the temp gun, and a good clean burn verified by the plugs. I know that temp guns are "subjective" but when it showed 240 (duratrax temp guage) that I was in the ball park. So just curious if you can temp it next time out if you havent.

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
I was told by a few people that the pop off was important but I am no expert for sure. I don't want to take away from this thread so I will post my problem on a new one.

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
dbcaster-- I too have read quite a bit about pop off pressure here on RCU and other places.. Talking to a couple of manufacturers is where I got my above mentioned info. Me being Me, I went and bought a Walbro pop off pressure tester and started testing everything I had. So far I tend to agree with the manufacturers, but I have not completed my testing. Pressures ranged from 10-25psi.

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
Poor ole Jon got tired of twisting two neddles. He went on and twisted 4 bolts and now has a brand new DA 100 under the hood. I told you Jon better to wait than make a mistake.

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
I got real tired of this engine too. Having it in my comp-arf 2.6m. Must have teaked it about 100 times and still not working right. Exact same problem as described above and worse, keep quitting in the air, extremely poor throttle transition. Dead stick during hovering, almost crash my comp-arf extra many times. Made my comp-arf extra flies like ****. All 3 other members in the club have same engine, same problem and worse. Guess what, they all got rid of the engine. I'm in the process of ripping out this damn engine and replace it with a DA100. What really pissed me off was everytime I want to tweak the needle valve, I had to remove the cowl due to the awkward location of the needle valve (hidden below the muffler).

RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
Bummer I hear that 115 is the beast to have
|
RE: Gas engine BME 110xtreme question???????
NuttyPro-- I never had the "rich" mid range or throttle response problems with my 110 in my comp-arf, wondering if airflow over the venturi or pressure changes on the diaphragm were causing those problems. I have had it happen to me with other engines more than once too.
