Boy this is a great thread. I am going to run mine up like one of these ways. I don't see why there are so many haters out there. Like I told one guy at our club are you going to pay for the extra funds for the DA and he said no so I said case closed. And it seems to mean that the motors or almost just alike.

ok I will bite... Since this is a DL 50 thread, and DA 50 has a thread somwhere else, and since I have only owned a DL 50 what is the difference between the two engines othere then one is shineier then the other. Or is it because DL is not made in the USA.

I understand totaly, Im not trying to cause any trouble and get this thread shut down, Sorry, I still love my DL50.

I was just making a statement and I'm not going into it any farther. This is how fights are started and threads get closed down.

I assume the 55 has the same stand off to prop hub distance?

The weight seems to be the same or less (2# 14 ounces). That's light.

giddyuperic 03-06-2009 08:51 AM

RE: DL-50 engine

I don't know much about the stand off yet just because this will be my first DL and gasser for that matter. But I did get the DLE 55 for the price of the DL-50 and they are the same I would think, but just bored out some and a bigger piston. So if take away metal to bore it out it would go to say that the weight would be less am I right? I don't know I am asking that seems to be the case I would think????????????

paul5992 03-06-2009 09:45 AM

RE: DL-50 engine

Normally if you put in a larger heavier piston the counter balance on the crank shaft has to be made heavier also. They go hand in hand. We don't know the bore or the stroke so its a little early to tell.

I love my DL50 also. But I would love a DA50, I'm sure. I just wouldn't like paying so much for it. Now I can hardly wait until I get a DL55.

Hi guys, did somebody used the 22x10 APC prop in the DL50, is there sufficient space for the four screws?
Thanks in advance for any replay.

Platero,

I have a 20x10 APC and IMO, there is not enough of the hub to mount it on a DL50. I haven't heard of anyone mounting an APC on the DL.

RE: DL-50 engine

Thankyou frieshoo I thought this, but I needed to confirm it. this is a nice prop but the hub is so small.
Best regards
Platero

3 gallons ashless mineral oil.

Standard muffler: Vess 22A break-in, 22B or 23A after
Tuned pipe: Vess 22A/B, 23B after

RE: DL-50 engine

Is that a DLE-55? If so what size props do they recommend? Xoar, NX, JXF, or VESS. All very good props. The best prop for your money has to be a JXF. Call Tom at ValleyViewRc. He can drill it for you at no extra charge. I'm running a 27X10 on my DA-100. Great props and there cheap. Tom does a great job drilling them also. Just tell him how you want it drilled.;)

It say made in 12 of 2008 so I think it is just a DL but that is fine with me. Does lawn boy oil sound right? That what I was told for break in and then bellray there after. I have been flying a Showtime with a Saito 125 in it and what a blast. I would think this is going to be jsut one great buzz flying this motor in my Giles 202:):):) I am going to start at the first page of this thread and read the whole thing. Thanks Eric

giddyuperic,

Do yourself a favor and ditch the stock plug, it lasts for about one gallon of gas. "The spark plug that comes with the DL50 engine is an NGK CM-6 or equivalent, gapped at 0.018in. to 0.020in. " quoted from the DLUSA website. I haven't had any problems with the NGK CM6, just the cheapy plug that comes with the engine.

RE: DL-50 engine

So that would be a good plug for break in and then the real ngk goes in right? Can you get them at auto parts store or no way?

The stock plug won't even last you 3 gallons. Simply use the NGK from the start and clean it w/ a soft metal brush or something similar after the break-in period.
I ordered mine at Advance Auto Parts. Drop by at one of their stores and they usually have it the next day. A plug lasts a long time, up to 2 seasons, depending how much you fly.

RE: DL-50 engine

Do yourself a favor while you're at Advance Auto, pick up some Pennzoil Air Cooled oil. Your engine will like it much better the the Lawnboy

RE: DL-50 engine

Okay thanks . Now is the the oil that is for any small air cooled motor? And it says that on the bottle right. And does it matter if you swing a smaller prop on break in like a nitro mtoror can you just swing what you are going to bring? And is the Bellray okay after break in? Thank you guys for all of the help. Eric
