RE: DL-50 engine
Does anyone know what size fuel tubing to use on the DL50?

RE: DL-50 engine
ORIGINAL: jedijody Verify that it has spark first, if it does, does the plug get wet? Closed choke and full throttle can easily flood the engine, leave the throttle at a high idle position. Choke on, ignition on, flip till it barks, choke off, flip about 5 or 6 more times and it should take off. Jody, how do I verify spark? I thought I did that by seeing that the ignition works fine on my son's DLE-55, and that my ignition battery is good? Thanks for your help. Jon |
RE: DL-50 engine
There is a sensor on your engine that is part of theignition system, what you did does not verify that it works.
Take the plug out of your engine, put it in the spark plug cap, connect the battery tothe ignition and turn the engine over observing the plug gap, you don't need to have the plug touching the engine. If there is no spark, turn of ignition, disconnect the sensor, using an old extension with the male end cut off, the wires separated and the ends stripped, plug it into the module. Turn the ignition on, then short the white and black wires together, every time this connection is broken there should be a spark, if so, replace the sensor. |
RE: DL-50 engine
Jody, I know you are trying to help me, but I am a neophyte when it comes to gassers. This is my first one. I took off the plug, put it in the spark plug cap, turned the ignition on, and turned the engine over. There is no spark , and I flipped the prop through a bunch of times. I got that far. I am lost after that. Jon
Ok Jody, I think I accomplished what you suggested after that point. I disconnected the sensor. Then I used thin copper wire and inserted it in the black and white holes in the male end of the wire that goes into the ignition. There is NO spark when I break the shorted connection. What now? My sensor is good and the ignition is bad? Doesnt make sense since the ignition worked on my son's engine today. Jon |

Thats why i asked my question here, I thought i might get a response from someone who knew of a good quality bearing that would fit, I guess not so when i get this thing pressed out i will have some research to do. |

Here is some info that was posted in the other forum a while back.

RE: DL-50 engine
Craig I use a roll cage type bearing in my own engines that are close to what DLE uses. I have to order 6 ea at a time to get just one. I looked and looked and looked some more and finally had the bearing store locally find me something that would work.
Timken shows them but no longer makes anything in that size. INA is another source but I have not had the time to check with them. I wish you luck in finding a good source for the bearing. I even tried to buy a bearing from several other engine brands including small bikes and scooters and it seems that everyone is selling the bearing together with the crank as a unit. |
RE: DL-50 engine
Anyone?? I need to know what size fuel tubing to use in plumbing my DL50
|
RE: DL-50 engine
3/32 or 1//8. I use 1/8" as it is easier to fit over the nipples. With either size be sure to use barbs and tywraps or similar to retain the lines.

ORIGINAL: jedijody Give me a call in the morning, 253-569-4458
I just got a GREAT learning experience and technical support from Jody at Valley View. Via here and over the phone this AM, he took me through the steps to isolate the problem of why my DL-50 (never used, but 2-3 years old) would not start. I learned a lot in that short time about how to isolate the cause of the problem. We reduced it to a defective Opto-kill switch, and Jody is sending me a new one today, while I return the defective unit. I want to thank him again here for his patience with a newbie to gassers, and for the admirable customer service and tech support! THANKS JODY! Jon |
RE: DL-50 engine
Jody has bailed us all out at one time or anther. He is great to deal with and would only go to vally view for ma DL parts or service. steve

RE: DL-50 engine
This is an awfully huge forum so excuse me for asking...has anyone upgraded this engine with a Frank Bowman ring? If so please PM me or post your reply for all to read. This subject may have been discussed earlier but I have never completely read any "novel" to date. Lots of good info in these forums but not enough time to sit down and read through all of it.
Yes....Jody at VV is an extremely knowledgeable man! May "The Force" be with you Jody!!! Speedy |
RE: DL-50 engine
Thanks guys, the force is always with me, the force of gravity that is. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif Iknow there are several people that have used Frank's rings in their DL engines with good results. I'll try a search to see what will turn up.
|
RE: DL-50 engine
I just installed one in a 55 that I will be running tomorrow.

RE: DL-50 engine
I put one in mine when I had one and it worked great. Better compression right from the start.

RE: DL-50 engine
ORIGINAL: rigofly Hello everybody, I've decided to partecipate to this very interesting discussion making some pictures of my last DL50 installation on GP YAK54 (not yet flown). This forum gave me lots of info and tips about this engine. This is my 2nd DL because the first one has been cracked during the break-in procedure ([:@]). I will write a dedicated post on this thread to tell you what's happended on the 1st DL....... I have installed a very big fuel filter but I've seen that some air bubbles remains on top of filter case so I'm afraid that these air bubbles goes into carburettor and quit the engine. For this reason I'm preparing to replace it with a smallest one (but not too small). my engine setup : DL50 Muffler: AS-Power (from Italy) Power Switch for engine ignition: ESC electronic Mosfet switch - Alewings (from Italy) Ign.battery pack: 4 x 1700 NiCd Sanyo Hope my english is correct, bye from Florence (Italy) Riccardo |
RE: DL-50 engine
I got my new ignition and now my DL-50 has started and run for the first time, hoorah! That leads to the another question. My engine is mounted inverted on my Extra 330L. As it ran, I could see a gas leak on the bottom of the engine (now facing up) between the rear mounting plate and the crankcase. It was small, but I could definitely see gas dribbling out that joint. Is that in any way normal, and is it something yoiui all live with, or how do I fix it? thanks in advance. Jon
OOPs, I misspoke...the ignition was fine, but the optokill was not, and that was replaced. |

ORIGINAL: 72 I put one in mine when I had one and it worked great. Better compression right from the start. |
RE: DL-50 engine
You will need to fix that leak. It will cause the engine to suck air in when it is running and wreck havoc with your mixture settings.
|
RE: DL-50 engine
What is the fix? Can I disassemble and add some kind of gasket? The engine is new in that this is the first use, but I bought it over 2 years ago. I don't really feel right trying to get warranty service since it was my own delay to get it into use.
