What size of fuel tank do you guys have and what are your flight times??? I'm still trying to decide if I want 24 oz tank - or maybe slightly smaller????? going to run smoke on the plane(GP PITTS) as well and it will go WAY faster than fuel.
I am using a 24 Oz and i have my timer set to 9 minutes.....in reality i can probably get 12 mins before 'flame out'.

My motor is still slightly rich with 2 gallons through, so i would expect that consumption to get better.

I am also running a tuned pipe on the DL with a 23 x 8 mejzlik
Hmmmm.... I am running a 16oz tank in my GP Ulimate and I set my timer at 15 minutes and still have about a 1/3 of a tank left. I could easily go 20 minutes but I dont fly much over half throttle unless its an up line and then its for such a short period. This thing hauls A--! and it gets out of sight in no time flat.

Hi everyone!!! i need help with the wiring of my firsat DL50, i need a wiring diagram, did not come with the instructions, or lost it in my shp, can anybody send me a diagram?

Here's my page, includes the manual for the ignition....

Speaking of ignition on these engines. I plan to run a 2cell A123 battery for the juice. I assumed(there's that evil word again[:@]) that I could run it straight without a regulator. However I do see where the manual Bob posted calls for a small resistor. Any thoughts from those with some experience here is GREATLY appreciated. I do have a switch and SF fiber optic kill switch.

Actually, it calls for a Diode.... a 1N4007 or something like that is all that is needed per their manual.
I am running both of mine without diodes, and using the 42% Products optical-kill switches and haven't had issues.
If you are very concerned about it, I'd run the diode. It drops the nominal 6.6v of the 2SA123 to 5.9v, and because the A123 stays at nominal for a long time, it really acts for all intents like a regulator.

Not being much of an electrical guru...how does one wire in this diode? And I assume it would be readily available at say Radio Shack? Not sure if I'll do this or not, just gathering info in case I decide to.

Thank you Bob for your input,
Earle

:DUpdate on my DL 50 everything is great. This is my plane with the Dl 50 and it pulls this plane around great.

On a seperate note this is the best flying plane i have had to date, it will hover with almost no input and knife edge is great.

I just removed my DL50 from a CMP 87" Yak. It was on a WH Edge 540 first.... Now, for the third arf..... RC Dawghouse Yak 55sp.

FedEx just dropped it off.

LOL!

I'm up to 150 flights on the DL. I was one of the first to order the DL from Peakmodel, over a year ago... I must say, it was money well spent.

Note about the ignition. I have toasted a DL, and a DA ignition running good 6V packs (full charge voltage of 6.8v)... no more 6V for me. I can fly all day on a 4.8v 1650mah Nimh pack.

Is a 1400Ma 4cell 4.8v good enough for the DL50 ignition for a day at the field?

The throttle on the DL50 is spring loaded, should i take the spring out? Is that spring a constant load on the servo?

hay that was brought up before I think they said to cut the spring tensin down

RE: DL-50 engine

I think most guys are clipping the retainer end of the spring. There are a couple of posts regarding this earlier in the thread. Don't remove it completely, but make sure and clip off the little retainer ortherwise it will "reconnect" at an inopportune time. Apparently this has happened to at least one guy. I clipped mine off and actually replaced it with an aluminum hitec servo arm. I also oriented mine in the opposite direction of the choke arm to reduce interference with the control rods.

BTW, other guys are just leaving it on with the oppinion that the light tension will not affect a servo. It would also allow using a pull "string" instead of a rod that has to push and pull. Might make rigging easier. Food for thought.

hey guys, this is 1 of the best site to learn from others and save a crash, this is my first gas engine , that's why alot of questions , one more question regarding the CG on the CAP232(ALITALIA) version, the instruction manual says(61/8"-7") from the leading edge of the wing mesured @the FUSELOGE!! that means NOT the regular LE of the entire wing right?becouse there is a 31/4 different in the mesurement , a sure crash if it's wrong !!!

I cannot believe all the people that are selling DL engines now, I have seen them for as low as $350.00, next thing you know WalMart will be selling them. At least the price is staying low.

RE: DL-50 engine

I had a near disaster with my second DL50 today and want to bring it up to everyone. It was too windy this morning to take a second flight, so I decided to run my remaining quart of the 30:1 break-in mix on the ground. One hardwood engine spacer came rolling out on to the ground, and on inspection, one bolt had come out and another was a quarter of an inch loose!!!! I had a problem finding a metric bolt long enough to fit through the firewall and spacer, so I used a 10x32 (I believe that was the size) which is very close in size. Well, it isn't close enough, it fits a little loose in the metric thread, and the Loctite didn't hold. DO NOT USE SAE BOLTS INSTEAD OF A METRIC BOLT!

RE: DL-50 engine

Hey Guys

Well, i tried flying again after I cleaned the carb and i am still seeing rich like running conditions in the air. While hovering and on the ground it is really smooth but cruising in the air it misses alot. I was reading about that little vent whole on the carb. Somehow this can affect fuel mixtures in the air. By installing a fuel nipple and running fuel line into the fuse where the air is "calm" i might experience better running conditions in the air. Is this true. I am thinking of doing this mod. Any thaughts?

Thanks

I do it on very one of my gas engines, I learned the hard way. It takes $.50 worth of parts and 15 minutes.

do you have in pic of that fuel nipple run to the fuse thanks

You can pickup the brass fitting at any hardware store in the plumbing department. The fitting is used inside a polyline for hooking up things like refrigerator ice makers. Solder the fitting to the center of the diaphragm cover, drill a hole in the cover, and plug the small hole near the edge of the cover with silicone. Run a line from the brass fitting inside the fuselage of the plane.
