I didn't read this whole thread over, and I'm not sure if I'm letting the cat out of the bag or not, (probably not) DZY is setting up distributors in the USA. they started just weeks ago. Soon we will have our second DA-50 nockoff. I love competition and low prices!

Perry swap meet, But over untill next year
http://www.gamarc.com/georgia.html

Every time I see clone or DA knock of I get a smile, If it is rear inducted with reeds it is a DA knock off, Wounder where DA came up with the rear inducted engine, Lets see they sold 3W rear inducted engines before they started making there own line of engines, Just a little history.

I have two DL's and love them both. I was wondering if anyone has ran one on an MTW Canister. I have the new Hangar-9/Carden Yak on order and was thinking of trying a canister setup. I have never messed with canisters and was wondering what would be the best to go with. And it would have to be smoke capable.

leelee,

You can always install a simple smoke oil injection port, (6-32" barb fitting) in the header before the can.

RE: DL-50 engine

I suspect that you are correct. It is a kicking machine. When starting it cold with choke on priming it, instead of popping normally, it kicks back. Choke off, flip prop a couple of times ... kick back , then next flip starts. the kick backs are violent and nearly knocked the chicken stick out of hand one time Did nto fly it today. very windy. Monday supposed to be 6-10 mph. maybe i can get some more time on her.

You mean like this :)

I have one on my own DL50, in Comp-Arf extra. MTW75 , the MTW75K is bit larger diam, and the better one, but I had to go the smaller one to fit in the canister tunnel (is actually a ready made setup for the DA50/Comp-arf Extra 2.12) Cost about $300AUD with header/coupler/clamps/Can

Nice and quiet, but a is a very nice sound. The engine loves them.

Seen a few with them here, the others are running the MTW75K and it is a bit quieter again.

RE: DL-50 engine

That is exactly what I need, I think the one it calls for is the MTW75K. As stated I have never used the canister, is there any special tuning, will you loose power like with a pitts muffler. I see all of the compititions when using cans they produce a lot of smoke, that is what I am looking for. And where is the best place to purchase them. On DA's website everything is in German(I think) and was wondering is ther somewhere else to purchase them. Think's for the pics.

LeeLee You better put up a hole bunch of pics of that build I wanna see. That plane with a DL will be unreal!!!:D:D:D:D

RE: DL-50 engine

As soon as it hits the LHS I will start posting pics. I want to have it ready before the Nall, but when a new plane is released it never hits the shops on the expected date. The DL50 is an awesome engine, and the way it pulls my QQYak, and GP Ultimate around I would not worry about it with this setup. I see that Troy Built Models are coming out with warbirds built around the DA line of engines, cant wait. Gives me a good reason to buy another DL.

RE: DL-50 engine

I got mine (MTW 75) from DA Australia. www.desertaircraft.com.au

Just tune as normal, seems to give slightly more power with the can. Seems a little smoother in the midrange as well

But hard to tell at this early stage as this is on a new motor, new plane etc, So not comparing apples/apples

Lee, Purchased mine from Don's Hobby. He said he was out of stock when I ordered it but it came withen the week. Don and Judy are very nice and easy to work with, he flies what he sells and their prices are more than reasonable. 1-800-972-6273. Besides , when you order you will get his new catalog to go through.

i am sure this has been discussed but I did not have time to go through all the posts. Does anyone have a RTF eight on this engine? i am trying to compare it to the brillelli 46 which lists a RTF weight.

jacklegchris 03-08-2008 12:27 PM

RE: DL-50 engine

I had a Brillelli 46 on my PA edge 540 and the weight was 14 lbs 3 oz. I put the DL on and it was the same weight. I didn't weigh the enging before I put it in but I hope this helps.

Bob,

BTW, Thanks for all the information on your site. Really nice to have that colocated like that. I already used a few things on my WH Edge 540 that came from your site. (ie. the wheel pant information and put together my own throw meters using the example from a fella you had listed there.)

Thanks again....................:D

RE: DL-50 engine

I dont know if to start a new thread, hope someone will help me here :) I have a little problem with idle. Maybe not a problem, but an issue :D When i close the throttle from WOT to idle in one fast stick move the idle becomes lover, even with tendences to die. When i close it slowly, particulary when i close and reopen a little a couple of times the idle is higher for about 10-20 seconds. Is this normal or a symptom of poorly tuned carb? And if something with tuning then tell me what pls :D

Low end needle is too lean would be my first guess.

RAMMJETT 03-09-2008 11:06 AM

RE: DL-50 engine

MIGHT ALSO BE CARB LINKAGE PLAY OR SERVO NOT FINDING NETURAL. FOR A TEST TRY TO RAISE YOUR IDLE STOP SCREW TO SUPPORT IDLE .IF THIS DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM RICHEN THE LOW SPEED A BIT.

Pawel Rzedzicki 03-09-2008 11:41 AM

RE: DL-50 engine

I also suspect the LSN. Today i richened it a little but maybe it should be a little more turned off. Thanks for your replies. As for servo i am sure it finds it's end point perfectly. Particulary when there's a tension spring on the throttle.

RAMMJETT 03-09-2008 01:16 PM

RE: DL-50 engine

ON THE BUTTERFLY CARB SOME TIMES THE THROTTLE SHAFT WILL MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE CAUSING ERATIC IDLE DONT MATER HOW GOOD THE SERVO OR INSTALL IS.THE IDLE STOP JUST HOLDS THE SHAFT STILL .THE BIGGER CARBS HAVE A PLATE ON ONE SIDE OF THE CARB TO PREVENT THIS PROBLEM.I ONLY KNOW THIS BECAUSE MINE WOULD SURGE WHEN I CHOPED THROTTLE QUICK AND IF I TOUCHED THE THROTTLE SHAFT WHEN IDLEING.I COULD CHANGE THE IDLE. WHEN I LOOKED MORE CLOSELY I COULD ACTUALY SEE THE SHAFT MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE.I NOW RUN THROTTLE STOP&ELECTRIC KILL
