RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Interesting that you had a problem with the Evolution props .... they are the same props as Xoar, Bolly, WildHare and several other commonly available wood props. Usually quite good quality props!
Yours is not the first complaining about Evolution engine quality and / or performance though. |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Are you saying all those props are made by the same people and only the label and price are different?

Xoar, Evolution, Wildhare made by the same Chinese Co. Good company though.

RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye you JUNK.
ORIGINAL: Kaoma ...Here is still the original post unedited: Nothing but problems. Bought a new carb (original) and still no good. At the end the, shaft was rubbing against the back plate. WAY! too much money spent for it and time waisted (with others) to get it going. Took it back to LHS for a full refund-store credit. Now I have the muffler and spinner left to Ebay it. |

ORIGINAL: Bob Pastorello ORIGINAL: josh********* I don't Know why you guys have all these problems ?? But Every thing I hear on here is one person ragging a a engine or a product and another saying its good !!! I think half the time its your set up ?? Or people just are not reading about the engine fully !! So please before you post a engine is a *** get your facts strait !! I have one of these and it runs great !!!! This is a great engine and if you set it up right it is sweet on a pipe !! Makes lots of power with the pipe set up!! I do agree there nitro engines are junk but there gas engines are rely good !!When I first got mine I set the tank up as a nitro system and had a line plugged because it has no vent and I was running a two line system !! It would run for a little bit then quit . I unplugged the line that I had plugged and used it for a vent and it has 5 full tanks through it with no problems !! So please don't knock a product because you have bad problems with it , This dose not mean its a bad product it just means you got a dud !!which happens some times !! Thanks,Josh A person's experience with a product defines THEIR reality. If my xyz engine is a ***, then I will be inclined to believe xyz engines are generally, a ***. Particularly if I have to spend MY money to discover how bad something is.... ***I agree, we should permit dissenting opinions on products/services. So....I think we need to be "okay" with somebody bashing something based on their experiences with it. What I have a LOT of trouble about though, are the folks who pass on second-hand info, rumors, or innuendo based on "hearing". ***I don't agree. I have long time technically minded friends all over the world that I trust implicitly. If so & so says a product has problems, you can believe it is true and take it to the bank. This acceptance of information being valid is earned, not easily bestowed. When I say that I heard from a friend that something has problems, you can bet it is true. Sounds like you're doing well with yours, consequently, it is not a ***. ***What is a ***? A dog? The other guy didn't have it so lucky, for whatever reason, and has stated his opinion. RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
The majority of the guys that did not replace the Evolution engines from the start, ended up with the plane in the ground from engine failure Took the Anti screwup thingy on the low end off as PER THE INSTRUCTIONS and retuned it AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS and it ran great and was a little screamer never deadsticked in 20 odd flights and was as good as any OS or Thunder Tiger. Quite a few Evolution gassers were trouble because the needles were screwed in to far from the factory and guys ran them as is instead of tuning them before flying |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Hi Guys...
Now I'm cofused...on what engine to buy for my first gas engine. I have been told that the Evo 26 was a good running engine, and plan on installing one in a P6E ARF from Tower. I odered the scale exhaust from Keleo Creations for the Evo 26 and now I wonder if I made a mistake. I've flown only glow for over 45 years...but never gas. I have a working knowldge of smaller glow engines...and one reason I decided to buy the Evo 26. I understood it to be a good running engine, easy to start and reliable. Is the general opinion of the engine in the negative/positive...or what ? I also boughjt and planned on installing the Solo Scale three blade hub/prop for this engine/airframe...utilizing a three blade 16" round tipped blades. Now what to do... Soft landings always, Bobby of Maui |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
I thought enough of an Evolution 26GT that I bought another one!
|
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Have two 26GT's and love them. I have two Zen's, three Fugi's and the Evo's and all of them run well but the Evo's are the easiest to start. Plus, they mount like a glow engine so they fit in narrow spaces like my 4*120.

RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
I have a Wild Hare Extra 300 and when I ordered it I was told it was made in Thailand. Powered with a MVVS 58 ( before the were Evolution) this has been a fantastic combination. Like some of the Evolution reports I've read my experience with an Evolution 100 has been very POOR.

RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye you JUNK.
ORIGINAL: tailskid I would have sent the engine back to horizon before purchasing ANYTHING! Have them tune it. Yes, thats what I would have done too. I spoke on the phone with Koama about this problem. Tried to help him with the carb problems about a month ago. Did you ever send it back to Horizon for service? I can't believe they would make you purchase a carb unless you refused to send it back, but insisted the carb was bad. If I was Horizon and you called me with a problem, but refused to send it back--I'd make ya buy the carb too. I wouldn't send you a new carb free of charge when I hadn't seen the engine. Regardless if it's under warranty or not. Send it in and let me look at it--or pay for the alleged broken parts. Sounds to me like you just got a lemon. It happens. There are far too many happy owners of the Evo 26 to completely dismiss the entire product line. You should have sent it back to Horizon for the $10 or $15 in shipping costs and had them take a look at it. I suspect if it was really that far out of whack, they'd have just sent you a new engine. |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
That would be 5 lemons he also had a 40,45,46and 60 that were all bad
Seem like he has very bad luck to have 5 engines of the same brand that didn't run. |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Hay Skidman 726,
I've ordered the Evo 26...and this will be my first gas engine. I'm retiring my glow engines for a while. I guess some folks just have bad luck with Evo. engines...but I know if I got two lemons in a row...I sure as heck wouldn't buy three more from the same company. I would also expect the company who made the engine to make it right...or I would stop doing business with that orgonization. I love K & B engines and I've been running them longer then I want to remember. I have great good luck with them...but I know guys that just sware at them. Go figure that out... Yes...the Evo 26 is a little more expensive...but I like the reports of it's easy starting and operation. Soft Landings always, Bobby of Maui |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Yes, there is MY fault. I did not want to send it back to Horizon, I tried to fix it myself (and many others as well)
Evolution history: -.40NT bought it and would not hold a low idle. Sold it. -.45NT came with a H9 Extra Easy tainer and the glow plug thread was loose. Gave it away. -.46NT got it on a trade and it was the best engine for learning how to do "dead stick" landings. Trade it for fuel. -.61NT bought it and the power was less than a OS .46AX. Sold it with the CG Tiger 2 plane. ...I guess the Evolution line does not like me... |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Well the key to any gas engine is learning it's starting habits that can save a lot of time and effort at the field and the best place to do that is on a bench at comfortable hieght too.
Need having a sore arm and back:) Once you have the routine down you'll know the drill for cold start, warm starts, etc Well I guess in your location there all warm starts:D Here's nice vid of QQ with the 26 on a Yak http://www.somenzini.com/html/aircraft/yak73report.html |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
40NT bought it and would not hold a low idle. Sold it. Had the same problems with Saitos, TT and OS are they all pos as well?? |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
My .46NT had more power than the .46FX that it replaced on the same model. This was on the first tank of fuel too.

Quite a few Evolution gassers were trouble because the needles were screwed in to far from the factory and guys ran them as is instead of tuning them before flying There is one more thing I do not quite get. Do Evolution gassers, built by MVVS, have an anti-tamper needle limiter? Maybe the american CARB (clean air regulations board) laws demand it. MVVS engines don't. See the pictures of MVVS, latest deliveries. |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
He has got a list of Evolution glow engines and some of those come with limiters but you can and often must adjust the needles further than the limiter will allow, instructions show the procedure for this, the ones I have seen are usually way to fat on the low end (teaching trainees)
Gassers do not have that but the instructions on my 58 stated not to turn the needles as they are "preset". I ignored that part and was glad I did as they had the needles only 1 turn out! could have been an ouch!!! |

For the record: I unfortunately own one of these things. I seriously believe that if someone wanted to pursue it, a class action lawsuit could be filed over these engines. I was told by Horizon service that mine needed break in, tuned pipe and any other excuse they could give me over a year long period of time with out telling me that they had serious issues with the ignitions. I like the author of this thread was sold things to help the problem without ever being told the truth. I finally got them to take it back and upon evaluation, they concluded both the engine and ignition was faulty. Result, i was sent a new engine in the box. I plan to sell it at a swap meet in two weeks for whatever i can get for it, and Evolution will never get a dime of my money. I have since bought 2 DA 50s, a Fuji 43 cc ( a great engine by the way), a zenoah, and i amfixing to buy a DA100. If i was going to buy another 26cc range engine, it would be without a doubt a Brillelli. |
RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye you JUNK.
You could probably get any engine brand going on a subject like this and get those who love them and those who wouldn't even use it for a fishing weight. I've never had a Evolution glow, but finally stepped up to gas recently and purchased a Evo 26 and 35. I absolutely love them both, very minor tuning and both start with only a couple of flips when cold and usually with 1 flip on the prop after warmed up. I can consistently get the idle down low enough where is seems you can watch the prop tick over. Little too low for comfort, but it WILL idle there. Power seems to be good and am still experimenting with different props. To condem an entire line of engines just doesn't seem logical, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You ran the engine, had problems, and got a brand new one in the box? Sounds like great support to me.

RE: Evolution 26GT2...Good bye POS.
Count my among the folks that think this is a wonderful little engine.
Jug, If you don't get any reasonable offers for yours, pm me and I'd be happy to take it off your hands. James |
