ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man Ralph, Name the person that has demanded payment for his stupidity. Do this at both forum you visit. We'll fix it from there. Intimidation still works, especially when they don't have a place to fly anymore. That's how we used to handle thisw kind of stuff and it worked. The idiots went away, never to be seen at the club fields again. Better for everyone else when it happened. Karol |

RE: Been looking
I say run with your idea about selling some Chinese engines. You could buy a huge batch, sell them for a good profit. Your support from your good background would be a reason why people would buy from you over another guy. Plus you could service them. Go with the flow and take the money !!!!
|
RE: Been looking
Ralph, the way I see your warranty it covers only your engine and work. Not consequential damages. Why did you pay anyway is the real question? Any one of us using any brand and especially those of us doing conversions, knows the risk taken once the plane leaves the ground. I have had many people here ask me to do work for them in the past and have resisted. Good thing maybe. Besides the fact I have no time for extra projects. Can't get my own done.

RE: Been looking
As a buisness owner you need to keep in mind that you cant please everyone no matter how hard you try. Someone that seriously expects you to replace an airframe because of a engine flame out is deffinatly one of those people that you will never keep happy so why try. You should of told him no and when he got all flippy you should of told him to pack sand. Im sure you would of lost a customer but some customers need to be lost... When he came on here and tried to flame you for not replacing his airframe he would of really got what was comming to him :)

RE: Been looking
This is the kind of thing that burns me! I personally saw a guy at the field crash his plane. It was all pilot error. Dumb thumbs, happens to us all at one time or another. He sent the plane back to the distributer claiming it was a defect. they replaced it right away. I couldn't believe it! That's just taking advantage. Hurts everyone else in the long run

RE: Been looking
I really have to scratch my head... Ralph.. aren't you the business owner who has the power to say No? Why did you even send the money to him? It's an unreasonable request in the first place.
This stuff about ganging up and peer preasure? Umm How old is everyone here? |
RE: Been looking
Old enough to know that it always works:) Call it political or social correctness if you will. Same principle, different name, and it's a very heavy handed part of today's business world. Make no mistake in that. The only difference between peer pressure and practicing PC is that one provides a knife in the chest, the other a knife in the back.

RE: Been looking
Wow, the guy who demands damages be covered because of a "dead stick" must be a real bottom feeder. I tell the folks I train that crashing is part of this hobby, if you can't stomach it, then you should try golf or something else. Of course, we keep the crashing down to a minimum, but it's gonna happen sooner or later.
I sure hope you don't let someone like this affect your business. The "gentlemen modelers" among us understand that you are not liable for this sort of thing. Mike |
RE: Been looking
Ralph, I don't know you, have never done business with you, but what I'm reading is almost beyond belief. Why replace the planes? Had some new radio gear once that failed on the first flight, sent it in, and the radio gear was replaced, but nothing was mentioned about the plane.
You've got to be one honest, hard working, whatever else you can think of person to take on that type of responsibility. You don't have to do that. 99.99% of the modeling community knows that! |
RE: Been looking
The fact that Ralph repairs crash damage to an engine once it was worked on by him, regardless of who the present owner is, is almost already over the top, and then to ask for the replacement of an airframe because of said crash is unheard of, at least where I come from.
Then again Ralph being the person he is, his consenting to such a request does not totally surprise me. Karol |
RE: Been looking
I do not think Ralph should need to name the crasher....the guy who asked for several hundred dollars back should get his BUTT on here and give us the total and HONEST facts. There is maybe more to this guy,s bad luck than meets the eye. Please who ever is out there...come forth....a very good mans life,s work is at stake here. Ralph...you know you can hang in there. Take time for yourself. Example...post the 3 days a week you will only jump for the phone. Even then ...take it easy on yourself more. I think is is my/everyones fault too....for asking too much from one person....thats is Ralph. I feel sad this day 4 sure. Cap[&o]

JUST POKED MY HEAD IN HERE CANT BELIVE THIS STUFF THATS GOING ON. I AM IN THIS HOBBY CAUSE IT IS A HOBBY. I HAVE ALWAYS WENT BY THIS........... ALL PLANES HAVE AN EXPIRERATION DATE WE JUST DONT KNOW WHEN. ......THATS WHY THEY DONT PUT IT ON THERE.TOO MANY FACTORS IN THE WORLD OF THIS SPORT WE FLY IN TO SAY THIS ONE THING IS THE REASON IT FAILED.WE CAN ONLY ASSUME WE THINK THIS MIGHT OF BEEN THE PROBLEM. BUT TO DEMAND REMBURSMENT FOR A CRASH IS REDICULIOS. ITS A HOBBY TO LEARN ENJOY AND RESPECT,THINGS HAPPEN, THATS PART OF THE HOBBY, IF YOU CANT EXCEPT, IT WELL YOU TOOK FUN FROM THE HOBBY. LATER

RE: Been looking
I can't believe this!!!! All of the crashes I had I thought were my fault (me or the Meachanic, same person) Now I find out all I have to do is complain and I can get my equipment replaced!! This is going to change how I fly!!!

RE: Been looking
Time to stop the insanity..FWIW...The customer did not DEMAND a refund...My policy is to refund or buy back an engine that doesn't perform...I was about to refund the money and buy the engine back..Here is part of the communication between myself and the customer
"I don't really know what I hope to accomplish by letting you know about this but I figured I should tell you what happened. I guess I am now the proud owner of a $885.00 boat anchor. Bent crankshaft." In my twisted mind it was my fault, so he got the price of the two planes + the engine.. I am now the proud owner of the boat anchor, when it comes back...It will be dissected, repaired, and will be good as new.. Half price if anyone wants it...IF I answer the phone... |
RE: Been looking
For what it's worth, had you offered to replace my plane I would not have even considered it. I would have flat out said "no way" Hey the engine died. Why? who knows. So from my point of view some dude reaped a windfall that he wasn't entitled to. Ralph you are indeed one honorable guy.

RE: Been looking
I hear you Ralph, but strange isn't it how things have changed since folks have begun to fly gas powered planes. In our glow days having a dead stick landing was a fairly common occurance and for the most part expected and we all learnt how to handle them, and on the odd occassion when we did not, we just took our licks and that was that. Now it seems as if it's the same ball game but the rules are changing.

RE: Been looking
I own a LHS and have been trying to fly a new plane with a gas engine that before has never given me any trouble. But this time I never got a full circle before trouble. Had many dead sticks. All I ask of the engine company was what was I doing wrong, and sure enough it was my fault. Never asked for new parts on the plane. Dennis

RE: Been looking
That's exactly how it ought to be and anyone that can't measure up to that should go find themsevles another more forgiving hobby.

RE: Been looking
I had three dead sticks on my G-62/Giant Aeromaster but it was my fault because I didn't know how to tune an engine yet.
If I had crashed it I sure as hell wouldn't have let Ralph pay for it. We are already getting the best work and customer service in the country. I had trouble with the igniton on my G-23, I had a new one in three days no questions asked. You have to look far and wide to find ANYONE who has that much pride in their work and products. I knew this day might come and it sucks. [:@] |

RE: Been looking
In reply too RC Ignition,I have sent you an email showing intrest in one of your motors, for my 97%gee bee y. i have called a couple off times, but no answer. After reading whats going on here, and your thoughts of ending the buisness, that you stated in the beginning of this thread I'am not sure what to do. All i've read through other fourms was your set up is great . The pacific gee bee y 27 % was designed around the 62, and thought your lightend & electronic version would suit it well, considering when i talked too Jim Johnson that with a stock zenoah 62 all was need was a little tail wieght. Ill be waiting to here Steve
