RE: DLE-30 - Post your prop data here

Funny you say that, the plane I did my test on a segull 120 yak I ran the dle 30 with 19x8 prop revs 7450, I have now moved engine to a katana120
and have put my OS160 in the yak with 18x6 and 8550 revs, diffrents i found the dle300 had more low grunt and pull like no tomorrow with the yak
the os160 I would say performed 20% less IMO. now that is just my test other folks would find it diffrent i guess.

So my DLE30 runs a JXF 19x8 at 7450 and getting better each run.

regards awd

Could thrust be added by the people that have a way to measure thrust? Thanks Capt,n

tele1974 09-29-2009 09:42 PM

RE: DLE-30 - Post your prop data here

I could use the prop calculator for that but I'm not sure how it compares to real world data. According to the calculator the Mej 18x8 prop at 8500 rpms should do 18lbs of static thrust. That would be tasty on my 12 pound bird. I am sure it would be different airframe to airframe. For example if you have a Extra 260 with a big mouth of a cowl intake. Wouldn't that affect the thrust? We can throw the thrust numbers in if guys list it.

All numbers with MenzS wood prop, well balanced and drilled:

18x8 8,350 rpm
19x8 7,330 rpm
20x6 7,230 rpm

Using RCEXL LCD mini tachometer attached to the ignition sensor.

Plane flew really fast, but would not 3D well. I just crashed it yesterday, yip, sad, but I did not really like the plane. I want to get a Yak or 260 and put a 19 X 8 on it.

I'm pretty close to sea level and don't think my 1.60 could make those numbers. Impressive.

I finally got our prop order, about 3 weeks late, now I can try some more props, I think the 19x8 may be the cats meow. I'm interested in your single bolt adapters and would love to check one out, I'll watch your website and snatch one up as soon as I see them. Maybe we could work something out, accessories? [8D] I"ve checked many DLE hubs and a few of the 30cc as well, they are some of the closest there are from a factory, never seen one over .002" out that didn't take a dirt nap. I know, I know, not good enough for Ralph.:)

Whats the best prop with the DLE30 for a warbird guys (FW190)?

Have a Mejlik 18 x 11 which I haven flown yet but want to have the right prop for the maiden. Looks like 18x8 is very popular but I gather they are for aerobats. Got suggesyed the 18x11 as speed is needed.

RE: DLE-30 - Post your prop data here

Whether I run an 18-8 Xoar or a 18x8 Zinger my plane (25% Edge) is fast. It burns up a lot of sky in a hurry. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 18x11.
Sam

Thanks Sam

Shes a heavy bird (as most warbirds are) and its my first "real" warbird build so not sure what to expect as far thrust goes.

My Sea fury is now running an 18x8 laminated from dle australia, can`t remember the brand. It now flies the best it ever has, and i replced the OS160 with a dle. Heaps of verticle, lots of speed and all round just an easy plane too fly and land now!

Nice!!

Fired my DLE30 (in the ESM FW-190) for the first time today with a Mejlik carbon 18x11. Heaps of thrust and power on the ground but wonder if I may find it hard to slow the plane down on landings. Might grab an 18x8 as well to try on the day of the maiden.
Also just in the back yard it was LOUD!!!

RE: DLE-30 - Post your prop data here

Hello people. Found this blog from the DLE30 blog on FG and I finally had the time to run my first 3-12oz tanks of gas through my DLE 30 that sits on my 72" yak 54 all up less gas-11 lbs. 5 oz. Mind you I still have a way to go on break in (even after fixing the SPS syndrome) and the main needle is still as fat as it can be without 2 stroking and my pulls (2 per prop for rpm and thrust) were limited to only 2-3 seconds each. Thrust was measured with a Mustad 50lbs digital fish gauge bolted to the ground in my garage with these results:

Vess: 18" x 6" - 8820 rpm/ 16.12 (that's 16 lbs and 12 oz) to 17.00 lbs thrust
JXF Slow Fly Prop: (from Hobbycity HK) 17" x 8" - 8670 rpm/ 15.3 - 15.6 lbs thrust
Master Air Screw Scimitar series: 19" x 8" - 7740 rpm/ 16.9 - 16.13 lbs thrust

For you who just like trying different numbers to see results I have a good prop thrust calculator page for you here: http://adamone.rchomepage.com/calc_thrust.htm

Have a good one people.

No problem Captin. Have followed your postings on FG on the DLE 30. Thanks for all that info. It helped me with some of my DLE wows. By the way, forecast for Saturday night is 10% snow-no big deal for you people up there in the North but I live in South FLORIDA!!

So far, I've got 8500 with a mejzlik 18-10 with filled in backplate. Not too bad.
