Old Julian Airport 2011 Spring Results
The 2011 Old Julian Spring race is in the record books. See the above for results.
Thanks to all the contestants, and race officials, for making this race a great success. The food, as usual, was great and good fellowship was had by all.
Three plane races resulted in only 2 midairs all weekend. We might want to consider wider use of 3 plane heats for the faster classes.
Thanks to Tom Scott, Rick Vogelsang, and the CAPS organization for the use of their JUDGEMAN System. Jim Katz and crew did not have single refly all weekend.
Pictures by John Comerford, will follow when he has a chance to edit his work.

Great race...as always.. Thanks to Mike and Jim and all the crew for putting on another great race. It is always a pleasure to fly at the Old Julian Air Races. Competition was fierce and competative. It was a fun time with the added experience of great food. See you in the Fall!!!

What a great weekend!!! Many thanks to Mike and Jim for a well run event. As always, the course workers at OJA are second to none. While most of them do not participate in our hobby, they focused 100% on making these events great for us. That is hard to come by. As a course worker myself on Sunday, the electronic lights system was a breeze to learn and work with.
ALSO, a big thanks to Mabel and Liz for making all of our non-racing moments enjoyable. The atmosphere and food were laid back and terrific! True southern hospitality at its finest!!!
If you haven't been to OJA in the past, make it a priority to attend the fall Gold Cup race this year. You will NOT be disappointed!!!

Trey,
I had a Non-Race movement on Sunday morning, but Mabel and Liz didn't help.
Always myself, Shorty Gauge
Panty Hose, NC. Not the best place in the world, but right next to it.

Wow! What a great weekend of racing at OJA.
I can't say enough about the site and all the people that make it happen: the Langlois family, Jim/Liz Katz, and all the many course workers who put in countless hours.
This was only the second time I raced 424 and the first for 422. I received so much welcome advice and encouragement and made a bunch of new friends. And with the help of my bud and caller, Larry "Vince Lombardi" Lewis, I was able to be quite competitive beyond all the goals I set for myself. I'm hooked bad now and can't wait to race again.
Congrats to the winnners, Mike Langlois, Mike Helsel, and John McDermott (also overall champ!). You really earned your wins amidst fierce competiton.

Thanks to Mike and Jim, and all the helpers and cooks for making this a great event! I had a great time and am looking forward to the next one!
Seeing as there are no pictures at all posted yet, I'll put up my random hurriedly-shot Saturday morning race prep photos. After these, I was too busy flying, calling, feeding my face with delicious food, or helping out, to take any more photos. Hopefully our designated photographer got some better shots than mine. Nonetheless, if anyone would like any of these jpg's, in unreduced original form, just PM me.

Mike,
I just cant say thank you enough for all your family has done to make these races possible. What a beautiful venue!
We had a blast racing there this past weekend, and your crew/family truly represents what a "class act" really is. There is no doubt youre event has a very bright future, and it has brought racing back to NC in an awesome way. Very few people in this hobby who, along with their family, are willing to put forth the effort needed to make things like this happen. My hats off to all of you. Thanks again for making this event happen for all of us.
And yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, there WILL be a 422 in my future!!!! lol
