I just purchases this fuselage.
No idea what it is. Dimensions: Length: 32 1/4 In. Width: 2 7/8 In. (4 In. at the wing fillets) the glass work is PERFECT! And yes, my cat Tom Tom, aka "Bubba" really is that big! Thanks for the help guys! DOug |

OK Bubba,
What I think you have there is a 1972 Pro-Model Products 1/4 Midget Mustang. It was designed and flown by Bill Weesner, and the glass rights were reserved by JOMAR. It had a 37 1/2" wingspan and an area of 308^2. Designed to be powered by a K&B .15 using Kraft KPS-10 servos. That takes ya back. |

I agree!
Here's a couple paint schemes for ya if yer deciden to paint er' up! :D |
RE: Need help identifying this fuselage!
WOW! I am always amazed by the network of modelers here.
This is an incredible knowlage base! Now that I know what it is, anybody have drawings for the wing & tail? Thanks Highplanes. Reno, I like the Dago Red's! But, I have a Long way to go, before i think about paint! My intentions are an electric conversion and a modern airfoil on the wing. What are some the the common Pylon airfoils these days? BUBBA da' Cat says Mmmeeeoooww! (thats cat talk for thank you!) |

Well, it's a 'Stang, the most modeled airplane after the Cub, so the wing and tail outlines should be rather easy to come by. But here is a picture of the plans, though the acid paper has turned them quite yellow, and the technology shown was also mired in the times.
As far as a "modern" pylon airfoil, so many are using ones that have NACA tacked onto the front of the numbers - these are over 60 years old... You will surely have a better flying airplane if you increase the area and span from this original design and just add Watts until it goes like you want. |

Highplanes,
What do you think about adapting a Matney AJ-2 wing? http://www.matneymodels.com/qm.html Otherwise, I will just have to draw a set and get them cut. Thanks for your help, Doug |
RE: Need help identifying this fuselage!
Doug,
Your main problem will be finding an airfoil where the upper curvature matches the wing saddle ... that being said, the SD 6060 ought to be fairly close, and is a darn good all-around airfoil. I would suggest laying it out so that you have a span of 45 inches or so, a tip chord of 5 to 6 inches, and 1/2 to 1 degree of washout at the tip. I remember Bill Weesner. He was basically unbeatable until the day he decided to do a quick paint job in his basement without a mask ... DuPont Imron catalyzed urethane. I don't think he ever flew again. Beware. RE: Need help identifying this fuselage!
Hi Duane,
Thanks for your input. I'll check out the SD 6060. I am a full scale mechanic and have been working with composites for 16 years. I can fit any airfoil to the fuselage. That won't be a problem. Also, I specialize in very high end paint jobs on real planes. So, I am well aware of the danger. Imron was recently declared illegal. Too many VOC's for current regulations! Thats really sad, about Bill. Sounds like he was a great guy! |

Sweet! I LOVE VAN'S RV's!!!!!!!!!!
You should get 190 MPH at 85% Power, unless you bring it to me, then you'll get 200HP and 200 MPH @ 75% Power! I completely rebuilt and painted one a few years ago. N511MG I'll try to post som pics for you. It cost nearly $40,000.00 for my refurbishment. Wich included a new Inst. panel w/Garmin 430, dual Lightspeed Ignition(a MUST have), Rework all the fiberglass parts, Nav lights, and 5 color paint. Boy, I miss that plane. nothing flys like an RV. the 4 is the easiest handling tail dragger I have ever flown, including Cubs, Champs, Pitts and an Extra. You are going to love your RV (As if you don't already!) I would love the opportunity to paint your plane and will make you a deal you won't pass up. I will provide all the references you want. My shop is located at 15G in Wadsworth Ohio. Doug Keck(330) 608-9330 |
RE: Need help identifying this fuselage!
I'm looking forward to completion. Working on the left elevator w/ trim tab right now, so I can finish the elevator pushrod from the bellcrank back. Then I have to make the tail intersection fairing since the factory part is a really poor fit.
Dave Anders built a modified 4 that did close to 250 mph with a hopped up 360 engine. I think he was pushing about 230-240 hp to do it. I plan on cruising at about 65% power at around 190 mph true (indicated speed will be much less) at 10,000 feet. Do you have any pictures of your panel, as that is in the heavy planning stage right now. I thinking a standard 6 pack, Trutrak, and King. Trouble is in fitting in an engine monitoring system too, like a Vision Microsystem. |
