Aerotech extra 330 28%.... 92db possible?
I purchased a Aerotech extra 330 28% as a winter project. According the areotech the plane should build out at about 19 lbs. Wing area of 1278 with an 84 inch span. I enjoy 3D type flying, and would need enough power to rapidly accelerate out of a hover. Aerotech recommends the 3w75. One of the clubs I fly out of requires a sound check, with 92db passing. I have found it difficult to locate any information about noise levels for various engines. I understand that there are many variables involved, but has anyone come up with a combo that would pass the 92db test? Is it best to simply set a servo travel limit on the throttle servo and use that configuration when flying at the noise restricted club? Since I haven't begun building yet, should I plan to use a can type muffler? What can I expect the noise difference to be between two blade and three blade props? Is there a better choice than a 3w75 (lighter, quieter, better design)? Seems like 3w as had some bad press lately, and it sure isn't the lightest engine out there. Anyway, thanks for any info.

ZDZ 60
I had a zdz 60 on a 1/4 patty with a bisson pitts style muffler and it DB.@ 94 @ 10 feet. WOT.
92 is going to be hard to beat.
Hope this helps

Thanks Bodymann, it does help. Anyone have any sound levels with the canister type muffler for engines in the 60 to 80 range? Am I correct in thinking the canister type muffler is the quietest exhaust option?

tcooper, ya know what i would do is call cactus avation or aircraft international. they should be able to give you some kind of a idea where the level will be at. using a cannister.
The cannister would be the quietest

Not yet, still trying to clear the workbench of unfinished projects. I did unpack the kit. Wood looks great, and a nice fullsize plan. Comes with fiberglass cowl and wheel pants, lazer cut formers and a nice canopy. Hope to hear from others further along in the building process with tips and watchoutfors.
