Default Midwest Extra 300 XS Engine?

This kit recos a 2.7 to 3.0 glow or 2.2 to 2.8 gas engine. I have a Quatra 52 I was considering using until I found it weighed 5 #'s. Has anyone used this engines, and or has a recommendation for another. Also how did it perform? thanks vettdvr

I have a Brison 3.2 gasser on mine, and love the performance. Go to my website and check out the video of my Midwest.

I had a G45 on mine and it didn't have enough power. I would recommend an engine that can swing a 21x8 7000+ rpm.

I first had a Moki 2.1 on mine, and later changed to a DA50R. This was one of the best plane combinations I had in over 20 years of flying. Can't beat the DA50R. A sure winner!

I built the Midwest Extra 300 XS over the winter and have about 9 flights on it. I used a Quadra 42 engine. You can not do 3 D flying with that engine but for this grandpa, I think that the engine is fine. The problem with the engine is the weight. In order to balance the model I needed to put the battery pack all most to the tail feathers. I also put the elevator servos in the tail area, and used a pull pull system for the rudder. It flies really great and will do all the acrobatic moves, that I am capable off.

I had a Quadra 35 originally and it was lame, changed to a Q65. Still working the bugs out, but it handles the power just fine. I have an older kit with the flat stab and fin. I use 4-40 rods to add support on the tail feathers. Birch firewall and wing hold downs are pinned for additional strength.
