I have chosen for my first Giant scale project the weeks solution I would like any info regarding the fabrication and set up of such an aircraft, flight characteristics ,engine choice ,servos ,and electronic requirements I am a beginner and need help Thanx Big Rod

What a super chioce you have made. The Weeks is one of my favorite Bipes-- I have had a few. I have the 70" Solution and the 77" Solution X-- both Miles Reed Plans. I did not build either, but I can tell you they are very forgiving as bipes go. I have a D&B 3.7 for boty and it is the perfect enging for both planes. Black is the SolutionX and the red , white , and blue is the Solution. They are somewhat older design and are therefore NOT 3D machines, but are built like tanks and float forever. I use a combination of 8101 and 5945 servos and throws are as much as you can get! Enjoy!!

The black one is around 33% and it is covered with 21st Cent Coverite-- However I am getting ready to recover it with Sig Koverall and dope. The black is for "sunny day" flying only and even then it gets very vague in the sky. The red one is Monokoate. I have talked to a local buddy that also havs the MR Weeks and is starting to build the same size SI and he says the biggest difference is that the SI is 6" shorter in the fuse. I did not know that SI made the larger size.

You have chosen one of the best flying bipes around,Build it according to plans and balance the same and you should have no problems.I have a ZDZ-60 in mine and is all the power you need.
Futaba radio with 9202 servos all around.24 oz tank covered with monocoat, Prop is a 24x10 Zinger.I used a little lighter ply than they call for in some places.I have scratch built all the Miles Reed series Bipes, Weeks Spl,Solution, Solution X and Challanger 42% with a3W 150,Have fun and enjoy, Bob

Hey Andrew, stop showing off my Solution! I'm glad you're happy with it and you're changing the covering. Hey BigRod, I have some good advice, forget about the wood cowl and opt for the FG one, I originally had the wood cowl with a 4.2 Sachs, and it did nothing but break apart just about every flight. If you can get your hands on a D&B 3.7 it really works magic with this bipe, you should consider a twin cylinder, but if not choose a ZDZ 60, I think they are the smoothest running single cylinder engines around. Thanks for the info I was thinking of the DA150 for an engine but its pretty pricey what is a d&b and the zdz 60 is ok too less money engine would be nice thanx eh big rod

You must have been mistaken when you said you were cosidering a DA150 for a Solution X

Actually, Miles has a Solution XX along with the Challenger that is in the 90" wingspan area that would work fine with a DA 150. So depending on the size you choose, there should be a Weeks to fit just about any engine.

By the way Frank, I shall show off my/your/our plane as much as I choose! I should have said that I built it myself!

BYW BIGROD---T he D&B is by Ridge Machine-- Miles and Ken Baker (owner of Ridge) are good friends and Miles designed all of his planes around Kens engines. Ken is an ex-aircraft repair mechanic that closed his airplane engine shop and started his own model aircraft engine company. He got tired of everybodys poor engine quality and designed/ machined/ and built his own TO FIT HIS NEEDS--THEN HE FOUND OUT THERE IS A DEMAND. Imagine that. This was back a few years ago before the Taurus/BMEs/DAs etc...... His engines are in the $1000 range but last forever and there is no smoother running twin-ANYWHERE! I own 3 of them.

HI Andrew, I saw the XX fly at Harrisonburg VA 2 years ago, it had a D&B 5.1 in it and it flew beautifully, I just can't imagine that same plane with a DA150 in it.

I hope you're not upset about the comment I made about the solution, just messing with you, after all I didn't build it either. It was built by Shaun Kappner, who did a really nice job.

Not upset at all-- just givin right back to ya! Now crashing the Weeks-- that would upset me.

I must agree with Andrew on this one, I have a D&B 5.1 and it runs incredible, very powerful yet very smooth, Hats off to Ken Baker, I don't know how he does it and I think more modelers need to start purchasing his line of engines and not be distracted by advertising.

Sorry to take so long to get back. I think the D&B is a good value for the money. They are built a bit stronget than most of the engines today since the world has gone ounce crazy. I would recommend calling Ken if it is not too much trouble. He is very honest and if the engine does not fit your application, he will tell you so. The 33% 77" bipe is plent big for me-- anything bigger is a hassle. As for servos, I have 5945 Hitecs on mine-- ONLY THE BEST FOR MY BABBY!

I finally finished my modified Weeks Solution X wtih BME 110. I put four more flights on it today with smoke what a nice flying plane. More pics and video on my website.
