Default Removing Stripped Servo Screw???

Seems like lately everything I touch is being "Murhy'd".

Anyway, I have stripped the servo arm screw on a Hitec 5945 metal geared servo. I guess I used to much blue locktite. Anyway, now I can't get the screw out of a $100 servo! Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am wondering if I drill out the top of the screw so I can remove the servo arm, if there will be enough shaft showing so I can grap it with a pair of vicegrips or something. any body have this problem and figured out a way to solve it without ruining the servo.

You may have to damage the servo arm but using a Dremel with an abrasive cut-off wheel you can re-slot the screw head for a flat blade driver. Also heat up the screw area with a heat gun before trying to remove the screw again. Heat breaks down the Loctite, you may not be able to heat the screw sufficiently to be of help but what the heck I'd try whatever I could.

In the future do NOT use Loctite to retain the screws, try Shoo-goo, PFM or similar, some use RC-56 canopy glue as well. Also there are socket head screws available for these servos. 2.6x8mm.

After you slot it like Mike told you to do, then hold a nice hot soldering iron on the top of the screw, let it heat well before attempting to unscrew it.

If you can't get it out you will have to buy a gear kit... I just ordered two my self!

Oh, the proper size screw for the 5945 is 2.6x8mm this is per one of the Hitec guys at toledo.

Later, Scott

Thnaks guys, I'm going to try the slot method. Got the same idea from one of the guys at our field. I like the idea of those socket head screws. This gas engines vibrates anything loose. but the blue locktite is tooooosticky. I have moved to another removeable thread lock I forget the name of right now.

Loctite makes a new "green formula that works great for electronics and delicate areas but removes easily when needed.
I use it on all my servos and wheel collars.
Hot tip!

the dremel slot worked great. It came right out with no damage to anything but the screw.
