I know its a nice dillema but which engine should i get for my Edge 540. Options are as follows:
ZDZ 60
ZG 62
DA 50
3W 50 QS
Im torn between them all. Im more biased towards the DA 50 or 3W 50 as they look soooo nice and have heard great things bout them. Any opinions would be appriciated.
Also what electrical setup? I was thinking of two 1800 mah both feeding reciever and servos with a SMC battery backer so if one fails or there is a problem one can feed both systems.
Was looking to get those Fromeco switches where you have to push a wire in to break the curcuit but cant find anyone in uk who supplies.
8411's throughout except throttle and choke.
Whats everyone else using.
Many thanks Matt

Engine - Myself and a friend both have DA50's in our 28% Edges and are more than happy with the performance. I'm sure they're all pretty comparable and all good engines, I chose DA because I heard their customer service is outstanding and through my few dealings with them I have found that to be true. He is running a 22x8 Menz and I'm running a 22x8 MSC, both hover and less than 1/2 and pull out with authority... havent weighed them on an accurate scale but bathroom scales say about 17lbs so I'm figuring around 17-18.
Radio gear - I'm running 5945's on everything but the rudder, which is a single 8611, a 5245MG on the throttle and a standard ball bearing Airtronics (922Z?) on the choke, this seems to be an excellent setup in my opinion. Batteries are 2 Radical RC 6v 2150mah NiMH's into one receiver through two Hitec heavy duty switches (friend has Fromeco batteries and switches in his, the style you want... they seem very nice) and one of the same 2150mah's on the ignition @ 6v.
You will love this plane, stick to the manual for CG because I find mine flies very well so far @ 5" and havent found anything it doesnt do well yet, I havent moved it at all yet but 5" is definately a good recommendation. Dont have your idle set too high or you'll never get the thing on the ground!!
She's a floater.
Good luck and keep us posted!!

The in-flight pics are a bit blurry but are from the maiden flight this last Friday
lol.

The ZDZ-60RV would be my first choice.
With a weight of 4 lbs. and 6.5 hp.
the power/weight/size are great in these 28% WH planes.
The DA-50 at 5 hp. and about the same weight ready to fly, would be my 2nd choice.
Then the 3W-50 at 4.8 hp. and a little more weight ready to fly, would be my 3rd choice.
For yourself as well as others, fly what ever you like.
The planes fly well on all these engines.

Just finished building mine with a DA50, balanced at 4-1/2 right off the bat. Put my batteries and receiver right in front of the rudder servo and it was right at the 5" mark.
Maiden in a couple of weeks, can't wait.

The install you have there looks really nice. Are both those battery pack feeding reciever or are they split between the servos and reciever?
There looks like there is a waiting list for DA 50's in UK 4 weeks. 3W50's the QS version is over $1000 havnt a clue why its $800 including a silencer from cactus aviation. The standard version is alot less. Is there any difference? apart from
ZDZ 60's looking favorite at moment i think.

Warbirds - I see I cant pull one over on you, can I...
LOL j/k Your bird looks good too!
Here's a couple pics of the guts of mine for more setup ideas... this balances @ 5" exactly with DA50 and a big Dave Brown Ultimate style spinner hangin off the front.

mattyd,
With the ZDZ-60RV, Supersonic pitts muffler, Pro Zinger 24 x 8 Prop,
and 3 1/2" Tru-Turn Ultimate style spinner, my WH Edge 540T is a joy to play with.
I have not had a chance to fly with one with the DA or 3W engine.
From what I've been told from those that have some stick time on
these is that they could not be happier.
So . . whatever engine you put on will be good.
Get what you like and be happy flying this great plane.
