RE: Composite ARF - 3.0 Extra - Painting Pics
Looking good Rick!
Are the red stripes and checks on the wings the tops?
What paint are you using?
I'm looking at ordering a Comp. ARF Yak and thought about paniting it my self, but think I'll pass as I don't have the skill/nerve.

Guys,
Just wait till it's done I know I can't LOL.
That is the top of the wings, I didn't paint the bottom yet, I have a simpiler pattern for down there. I am using Dupont Centari Enamel, just like on the 2.3. I figured it worked so why not stick with it?
I didn't weigh it, but since I'm not clearcoating I'm hoping it will be light enough.
Stopmer,
It is nerve wracking but it's really not that difficult. The paints these days are pretty tolerant to mis mixing and poor spraying habbits. I stayed nice and simple on the 2.3 and when I was done I was like ahh that was it? I should have done something more difficult

That's awesome Rick! What method do you use to apply the paint?
I wouldn't worry about the weight of the plane. We have four of these planes flying Unlimited IMAC this year, and they all fly markedly better than the 2.6M. They fly at a more relaxing pace and have all the power in the world.
...And the squeal is even louder than the 2.6M [8D]

Rick,
Some details as to exactly how you're painting this quality would be helpful. ie type of paint, type of spray equipment, pressure you're shooting at are you using masking film or tape etc.
Thanks

I have some details about specifics I had used on the 2.3 but the process was exactly the same for the 3.0. Except that the 3.0 is A LOT bigger and it took me 4 times as long to mask. Thank god I had SOME help.... (Hi Mike) but I could have used more on the checkerboards.
If you more qustions after that - I'd be pleased to go deeper. Let me know.

Hi Rick,
Beautiful scheme!!! That plane will present well.. It looks like you did a GREAT job!!
Are you by chance using an Iwata or Sata HVLP touch -up gun.. The new small HVLP guns are awesome!!! I don't know how I painted the last 30 years without one!!!
I now have 9 flights on my 3.0 ... it came out at 36-1/4 lbs...
I'm anxious to see some photos of your plane fully assembled!!
Regards, Dave
