The worst feeling ever.......................
Today I did the maiden flight of my H9 540 edge, I spent three months collecting parts and assembling them little by Little, 5945's a YS DZ 140 JR PPM 8103 I really took my time to build a beautiful plane, I broke the motor in with two tanks through it, then it was ready to fly, it took off like a rocket but then it happened, as it reached a good altitude to trim I pulled back the throttle stick, nothing happened! I just sat and watched helplessly as my plane went zooming around with no way to slow it up, I know the airframe couldn't handle the power for this extended time but couldn't do anything about it, all I could do is hope it would run out of fuel before it came apart, no such luck though, the right wing ripped off and the plane came spinning into the ground at pretty much full speed hit the dry river bed and smashed it to pieces I think the engine is savable (bent crank, broken injector)), the servos seem fine (I haven't found the other wing/servo yet) but everything else is junk, or kindling if you would...The worst part was zooming around at full throttle with out anyway to help.....

Guys, thanks for the kind words, Steven it wasnt anything to do with the servos you sent me they seemed to be just fine, I dont know what happened (I can only speculate but it seemed like a radio glitch) the plane was in tiny pieces when I found it it went in at full speed spinning without one wing and destructed down to the tail, it was quite spectacular, a sight to remember!

Was there a Hitec on the Throttle?
Those 5945's have been going hard over on Everybody. They have been having huge problems. Sounds like another victim to me. I will never put any Hitec's in any of my airplanes. I know people have had luck with them, but this is happening more and more. Sorry for the loss.

I don't understand how flying at full throttle will cause a problem. UNless you were coming straight down, the speed could not have been that high!

RE: The worst feeling ever.......................
I got right back on the horse guys, I flew my other plane right after I collected the pieces of the first one and will be back out today!
Geistware, I wouldent have thought so either, but the Edge 540 is a very light plane mine came out at 11.5 lbs dry and with that DZ up front it was really hauling *****! the frame was shaking so bad I knew something would fall off sooner or later and the wing tore off right where it meets the fuse (not where it is joined together) as a 3-d model its a floater designed for bursts of speed but not sustained high speed flights ...

hey 1fish, very similar problem with my H9 edge540, hitec's throughout, go to www.oregonscalesquadron.com and go to our pictures, look at #6, thats me with the pieces, fortuanatly i only lost the carb on the motor and its already in a SIG extra 300xs and doing fine
Its sucks to lose a plane when its not Pilot error, always leaves you wondering, i am also reading many negative issues on the 5945's and i got a lot of them in various airframes, cant really afford to repalce 20 or so servos at a whim.
To be honest with you, i was not that impressed with the H9 edge540, there were a lot of wing failures on the early production run and though mine spiraled into ground from radio problems yours sure sounds like it may be a manufacturing defect, you might want to consider that route and contact Horizon with the support of the LHS you bought it from. I also had a lot of work to get the fairing blocks on the rear fin to fit correctly and they still had large gaps that i had to fill. not impressed at all but a good flying plane once completed.
keep your chin up

Matt, gee man, sorry to hear about your loss. I know it must have been a sick feeling. We all have lost them at one time or another, but on the maiden, Jeez! Hang in there.

Here a few pictures before and after, the servo on the throttle was a standard mg hitec not a digital, as for a new plane I am open to suggestions, I am looking twards something from 3d extreme, I love the edge profile I got from them its top quality all the way!!!
Maybe this one I wonder if the 140DZ would be too much for it???http://www.extremeflightrc.com/product_html/68Yak54.htm

Just curious, did you have the throttle linkage set up with metal clevices and metal threaded rod, or did you set it up with NYlon rod and Nylon clevices?
I have had glitches with my throttle when setting up with metal to metal. I always set it up with nylon now myself. You would think that if it was a hit, they are mostly intermittent, and would fly out of it, seeing how you had some control with everything else. Mainly "Hits" or interference will effect radio frequencies, not specific servos. Sounds more mechanical to me. That is a total bummer, looks like it was a gorgeous plane.
I lost my 1970's style 96" cap about 6 months ago, from the carburator coming loose. Just completed 'Rebuilding' a 30% 300s Carden that kind of looked like yours on the table there.
Best of luck

Hey ifish,
Sorry about your bird.I must say I think your pieces are bigger then mine were from Sunday.I lost my 80in cap. This thing went in at full throttle from 400 feet with the moki 210 leading the way.It hit a cement driveway. It hit so hard my engine broke in in half.Everything was toasted. My receiver battery pack failed and i had 0 control..The little strips that connect the battieres together came loose. When I get some pitcures I'll post some.Good luck with your next plane.
