RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
aerofundan i have seen some of your vids flying the edge 3D. Where has your CofG ended up on it?
I will be setting mine up as recomended to begin with but I am curious to know if you have fine tuned it from there.

Hi Aerofundan, thanks, I will keep them coming, hope they are a help to others with their builds.
Probibly won't maided for a couple of weeks, need to go away for a week for work, and will possibly get my self a better 22x8 prop. Im not overly confident with the "rcm pelican" one I got from PA, seems a little on the light side compaired to a lot of others I have seen.

This is how I mounted my Emcotec system, I used the external switch and mounted the unit inside so it is visable.

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Hi guys,
Just wondering if I could do a survey on where people have mounted thier ignition switches? I know where I'd like to put it, but it is closer than 6 inches to the throttle and choke servos, Is that ok or should I mount it somewhere else? BTW, I am running only one regulated li-ion battery for the reciever and a 4 cell nicad for the ignition if that helps

Don we have excellent wooden props 22x10. The one you have was just one off and that was only to break in.
Give us a call if you interested

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Thanks Shaun, I understand you have better props, I should have specified a better prop when I ordered.
But now looking at the prop I got, I am not sure if I want to fly it for break in, seems a little thin, so will either order another from your self or get one locally, probibly the same price when consider postage from Sydney to Perth.

kiowawarrior2, I cut a hole in the fuse in front of the landing gear for my ignition S/W, (see image), dont have an actual image of the switch but have roughly indicated where I placed it.
Put my throttle servo at back of tank so far enough away from any ignition gear, the leads from the ailerons would be the closest control items to the ignition.

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
hey Dont,
u making great progress man, i like the way u mounted the emcotec, Great idea. i should have done that thats why this place is great, good for sharing different ideas.
i bought a JxF 22x8 prop from PA for break in and its is a great prop, after i have broken it in im going straight to a PT carbon prop. i have approx 5 flight on mine now,
also ur cowl looks amazing Great job....
also here is a tip when putting ur canopy on use a little bit of canopy Glue on all corners and small wood blocks for the screws to go into on the inside side,
anyways guy good luck,
im going too give mine a clean and do some staring at it hehe

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Thanks Don,
That's one of the places I thought of, but I was favouring the area above the landing gear mount where there is ply to mount the switch to. But, further forward is going to be better for system isolation and interference reduction I think.
Cheers,
Thom

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Thanks steve, good tip on the canopy, I have been tossing up how I was going to mount it, glue and blocks for the screws sounds the way to go.
yeah I should have gone for a good 22x8 at the start, most people flying 50cc over here I have spoken with have stayed with the 22x8 after break in, they are finding it a great prop. The rcm one just looks too thin!

Yeah Thom, I should have mentioned I made a thin ply reinforcement for the switch and CA'd it to the inside before I mounted the switch in place, for that little bit or extra security on the balsa.

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Aissie, I picked up a Bolly 22x8 prop locally, when compaired to the JXF you would almost swear they are the same prop, although I am compairing a Bolly 22x8 and a JXF 22x10, the JXF has a slightly wider blade.
The rcm is thinner in all respects.

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
What type of setup has been used for the choke setup by others ?
This is how I set mine up after seeing this used on a DA 50 out at the club, I think it will work fine.

Dont, Hey there man the Jxf Look The same, i dont think u will have any probs with either, they are both great props. as for ur choke, it looks good though i dont like the idea of cable ties around the motor, the motor does vibrate alot as new And the cable tie may slip and brake ur sensor off...then u up for more money to fix and no flying time
what i did was cable tie around my Standoffs and just used a piece of wire and i can hide it in my cowl...ill get some pics for you

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Thanks for the pic Don, thats where I decided to mount mine. It makes sense and keeps everything neat inside.
I like how you set the choke up, I had been trying to think of how to use the choke manually without complicated mechanisms. That is so simple and logical now I've seen it. But, I have decided to go with replacing the choke horn with a longer arm and making it servo operated so that I can satisfy the requirement to have an independent engine cutoff to throttle. I'm still trying to find a cost effective opto-cutoff for this bird. But, I haven't really seen any shy of a $100 to date. So, I may have to just get the smartfly unit.
Progress is still slow, I share the workshop with a motorbike and the warlords chariot. So I can only work while she is away. Good thing I finish work before she does I guess.
The weather here is pretty unproductive for flying, so I think that I can take my time and not rush things.

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Kiowawarrior2, I ordered the smart fly unit with the plane, I ran the engine up today and the smart fly unit works great, set it up on a switch on the evo9, does the job well, the external LED is a great idea gives you a visual the unit is on.
and if you use it in a larger plane with two receivers it has the two seperate receiver inputs as standard.
I have seen a lot of setups were they use a seperate micro switch and a servo for cut off but this is a great unit I reckon.
Here is a shot up the front

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Yeah Aussie the Bolly will be fine, I checked out if the choke would be a problem if loose when I intsalled it, it can flop around quite a but and possibly even fall off, at the lenght it is it should not get close to the rotating barrel, with the cowl in place...
Picks would be good for comparrison.

the pics i cant get them to bloody load, My comp is on the blink umm ill try tomorrow,
ill try any explain it, On the top stand off put a cable tie on it dont tighten it yet, then on the bottom stand off put another cable tie and dont tighten it, NOW what u need to do is run another cable tie in the middle of the too connecting the wire through the middle now tight togethor,
this sounds too complicated ill get a pic A pic speaks a thousand words

RE: PRECISION AEROBATICS EDGE540T
Hey mate this is another way u can do it, this is the setup i got on my edge,
also im using the Smart fly igni cut off, also when ur not using ur plane make sure u disconnect the ignition battery from smart fly other wise ur batery will be drained in a few days, dont ask me how i know this
also where is ur Ignition battery?? i put min inside the motor box, across from the ignition module. my plane balanced perfect on my cg machine so u might find ur model tail heavy if its somewhere else.....
