I have been trying to upload it to youtube - I have the account but for some reason the format of the video is such that my PC will not recognise it... Ive only played it on my DVD player so far.. so dont know what the problem is.

Will email the chap that did it and see if I can make any progress.

The video itself is put together real well, the flying aint great everywhere but there is enough variety in it to show the performance of the model well quite well I think.

Hold tight and let's see what we can come up with...

great vid - nice flying and i am impressed with the plane - looks like the imac is good too - are you flying nose heavy or tail heavy and what prop? also how neutral is the KE?

Adrian,

I would say CG wise Im probably a little rearward but not excessively so.... any firther back and it would spoil IMAC type flying. Moving it further forward would improve IMAC type flying but not by much.

I have not measured CG since alterations so could not say exactly where but I would say the position mentioned by the likes of towball and japan3D on here are about right for an even IMAC / 3D set up.

I believe the design with straight leading wing helps with the 3D, and the shoulder wing config helps with IMAC and 3D - this is why I chose the EDGE before I started looking for the specific model. I also chose the T because of the greater canopy area.

KE is not perfect but its not bad. I have a little roll coupling thats all. elevator is neutral. about 9% mix if I recall - certainly acceptable. I believe up to 12% max on a model of this size is acceptable.

Prop - Meijzlik 28x10. I believe that a smaller Mej would be better for 3D. I ran it in on a Menz 26x10 and the hovering etc was much easier. You notice in the vid that the t'rolls are not completely settled partly because you have to cycle the power to keep an even hang, and whilst I was getting used to it before, adding the smoke changed the power response a bit - something else to get used to.

That said, I have a PT 28x10 to try which is much lighter, so this might be a good alternative to a smaller Mejzlik. I think the Mejzlik is best for IMAC though.

thanks capiche - i will start building in a week or two - not sure about the engine yet - hitec 5955 with 2 on the rudder, a new smartfly expander with servo matching and TBM li ions - the props will be bolly as i am sponsered so i will start with 28/27 x 10 wood - my engine choice is 3w106cs or maybe even a ZDZ160 champ as its the same weight. i have several DA's but need something new!! i have a sponser deal with MVVS but the 116 is way to heavy - thanks for the input - i will ask more questions should you not mind -

no problem

Thanks for positive feedback on vid guys... nice to hear especially since I didnt rate it particularly high.....

Oh, and if you want advice, dont torque roll with smoke right on top of yourself - vision becomes blurred, it stinks, and your eyes get sore... hence the rapid exit on the second one ! Need to give more attention to wind direction next time !

i just wonder how you place the servoes on the wings (the one nearest the wing tip)
do you cut a hole in the surface or do you lead it inside the wing(from the body)

There are comments in this thread about this topic - you basically let it in from the root and make a long screwdriver.

I used servos that were too large for the holes (8511s) so enlarging the hole on the outboard mount was gonna be impossible without cutting the skin, which is the other option.

I flew this season with just one servo on each aileron. I have found toward the end of the season a problem with centreing which might be down to too much load on one servo. I need to verify this. This means I need to either commit knife to skin of wait for the new JR 8711 servo which will give me much more torque form the same size case !

Maiden my edge today! All went well! It seems to be a great plane. Now I have to get used to this plane and then flying lower and lower!( not to low, earth is the limit

Thanks to you ( Towball, Aerowiz, Capiche............) for your help! I am very grateful to you!

Now I am eager to fly it again. The engine is still breaking but the power-weight ratio is unbelievable. Hope to ba able to manage torqroll, blender, rolling........ soon.

Thanks again

hey adrian,

you need two servos in the wing. i had two 5945's in each side and there was no play in the ailerons. fitting the standard sized servos is an easy task. i made a long screwdriver with some tube and a screwdriver bit.

good luck with the engine choice, mine was a rocket with a da100, 27 x 10 prop.

btw my edge bit the dust. i was doing a low knife edge and got caught up in some turbulence. i really liked this plane and i am getting another one.
