Gawsh... a 2.2!!! You'll need to carry a gallon of gas if it's anything like my 1.80 was!!!
It is purdy, but the wing area seems a little low for a DA-50 powered ship... hopefully the weights will come in in the 14-15 lb range to get good performance with that wing area... oh... and the power will be UNBELIEVABLE at that weight!!!
Also, it is nice to see that Horizon is recommending a DA-50 as opposed to a Zenoah G-38... they may have done that in days past.

This is one sweet effort by Mike McConnville and the crew. I too wish it was bigger but it does split right between being able to put a glow engine on it and or a gasoline. I bet FBaitys YS 160 would be the best choice for me if I still glowed. H9 is really on to some great stuff! Good job!

I see that one of the engine options is a Saito 2.2, but Horizon doesn't seem to be carrying it yet. Does anybody know about this?

I agree, it is a little too small for a DA-50 and way to big for anything else

Looks great but is in that awkward in between size.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to obtain demensions of the fire wall of this model? I need to make decisions on engine mounting ( YS 160DZ ), inverted or prefer side mount. Muffler considerations, engine mount type etc, thanks.

This plane looks like it is almost identical in size to the GP Patty Wagstaff. There are lots of GP Patties flying at my field with engines ranging from OS 160's to Zenoah G-62's. Several guys fly the patty with DA 50's and they fly great. I think that this plane would fly great with a DA on it if the engine box and cowl are big enough to stuff one in there.

The model has 1150 squares(aprox).
The early EDGE from H9 had much less area -under 1000 as I recall -
We did this model with ZDZ40 and it flew fine but wing loading was too much for us.
This one looks right if weight is kept down --no smoke systems etc..
This new H9 EXTRA 260 model looks like the 40 size LIGHT gassers will work out well -
They advertise it as a "50" size" model .

Its gonna be tough for DA50.. If it flies like the Patty on a DA50 I'll stick to the 84" planes. I thought the Patty flew very heavy (as in wing loading) with a DA50. It was a lot better with a Moki 1.8
My guess is that a DA50 is going to be just at that edge.. it'll fly, but not as well as it would with a Moki
Isn't a ZDZ40 with pipe heavier than a DA50?

While it is a nice looking plane, I am starting to wonder why they didn't make around the 82-84 inch span range.
Maybe we'll get lucky and they will put out a sukhoi with an actual scale nose and with the slightly larger span.

Competition for the newbie IMAC crowd.
I saw quite a few GP Pattys last year, and they IMAC well. This is the intended market is for this airplane.
Every plane that comes out doesnt have to be a 3d plane right?
It makes sense for me anyhow...... plus more engine choices - glow, small gas, makes better entry level and lower cost option to wet peoples appetites.
From a newbie in IMAC last year, one of the first things that I learned was " I want a bigger plane"
This plane is a great stepping stone along the way to the bigger $$ planes.
