My 1/4 scale Extra bit the dust this past weekend. I need a recommendation for a good flying reasonably price plane for a 40 or 50cc gas engine. I prefer an ARF.

Here's two I'm thinking about:
Great Planes Christian Eagle II ARF
Kangke Laser 2000
Both are perfect for the 50cc plus range
Bummer about your Extra, by the way.

There are several to consider:
Availible:
WildHare Edge 540 $399 Out of stock
WildHare Extra 300LX $399
WildHare Extra Special $399
Extreme Flight Yak 54 $649.95 Out of stock
Great Planes Patty Wagstaff $399 ($40 discount through tower right now) so $359
Great Planes Giant Christen Eagle II $349 ($40 discount through tower right now) so $309
Chip Hyde Vision 3D $495
Chip Hyde Double Vision $595
Chip Hype Cap X $379
Availible in the near future:
WildHare Ultimate $469 if you pre order
Hanger 9 Extra 260 $379 (availible in April)
Those are the ARFs that I would consider if I had to replace one of my 50cc birds.
One thing to consider is that WildHare is near Dallas you might be able to save yourself the shipping charge if you pick it up direct.
FWIW, I have the WH 540 and Extra 300 Special and love them.

Issues but Cheap.
Chief Aircraft had a sale of Aeroworks 29 percent katana's going. I have one, which is my first gasser, and aside from a few issues, it flies great.
I have a ZDZ 50 in mine and just passed the 12th flight today. I an using mine as accelerated gas trainer, while building my main IMAC plane, the H9 Extra 33%.
So far I have been amazed at how well this thing flies.
Now, for the "You get what you pay for bit"
It is not as nice as a H9 arf, nor an EF Yak 54 either, not even close. The price bit is the key. I think I might have 1400 in it, didnt keep track. The biggest thing was the gaps between the wings and fuse. The Gaps are there, and on the ground plainly visible. I didnt buy the plane to sit on the ground and be pretty, I bought it to fly the snot out of it, and that is what I am trying to do. It is a pretty plane dont get me wrong. You will need to reshrink the entire airplane as the covering was pretty saggy. It tightened up well. Beef up the landing gear plate also, which you can do before you fly, or after you eventually rip out the gear. These are the only real issues I have with it. And again, it flies great with the zdz 50. Power to spare for certain.
Now, the H9 Extra 260 I saw at Toledo is nice, but a bit smaller.
There are plenty of choices and I wanted to pass along one. Aeroworks has had issues with people, and I have as well, but they took care of things so I am a satisfied customer. Hopefully their quality control is better with the next batch of airplanes.
Hope that helps.

All the planes that were mentioned previously are great choices. I had the GP 1/4 scale Patty Wagstaff and it flew great esp. with a 50cc. $399.00. I would like to mention that the GP Christen Eagle is really for an advanced pilot. I've flown one and I think the GP Pitts Special flies better on the other hand the Eagle has the looks. Thats just my opinion.
