I saw that too. I stuck my finger in the throttle servo plate opening and pull up gently and it came off. I decided I don't need it and decided not to put in the throttle servo either to save some more weight.

I've been catching up on the posts in this thread, because I recently crashed my Flair Yak 55 and am thinking about an ARF for my BME 44. I was wondering if the "gremlins" such as the delaminating gear have been fixed by Hangar 9, or should I wait longer until the problems are addressed. I was also wondering if there is an internet source that has a better price than the $379 I see at several E-stores?
Thanks in advance,
Sam

your best bet is chief aircraft, which would include shipping at that price. I think 380 is set by Horizon, so you can't go any lower than that.
I think the delaminating gear is a minor issue, and overall, this is a great aircraft. If you're in a market for this size aircraft, look at Ultra RC's Giles 202. It looks very promising... and lighter too.

I have flown the Ultra-RC Giles, and its a really great flying plane! The one I flew is about 10lbs, with an OS 1.60 on it. I am not a big fan of the color scheme, but the way it flys makes that an afterthought.
I have the Extra 260, but am not finished with it yet, but its a nice plane too........

I got my Extra 260 on Ebay for $315.00 + $24 for shipping from Mac Hobbies. As for the delamination, use dental floss and CA.
I'm using a DA 50 (my first gas engine)........You will not be disappointed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hellohellohello,
You were right about the servo not having enough torque.....I installed a 333 oz Hitec servo and it fixed my problem.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I"m sort of comparing the Extra 260 to the Midwest Extra 300 and the Aeroworks 29% Edge. I've had the MW Extra and loved it, but I was wondering how those of you who have either flown them or seen them fly would compare them to the Hangar 9 Extra 260? I'm not a 3D'er yet, long way to go, but I enjoy a good aerobatic plane that is big enough to keep track of and also can carry a smoke system if I want.
Thanks,
Sam

Daddysam, I have both the Midwest Extra 300s and the new Hanger9 260. The Midwest has a Moki 2.10, while the H9260 has a DA50 with a Mtw canister muffler. While the Midwest Extra flys great, it has some draw backs, like control surfaces are not double beveled. One piece wing is harder to transport, tail is flat, not airfoiled. The H9 Extra has all the latest upgrades, as well as being a great flying plane. I had to put the canister in to keep to clubs 96 db. noise rule, but in no way does it degrade this planes performance. As far as the landing gear, I've got about 35 flights on it, with no problem. By the way, the DA50 and canister combo, equals 92 db., and 14 lbs. dry weight. Great flying plane!

Can anyone tell me what the distance is from the centerline of the cowl to the inside surface of the cowl measured horizontaly?

Well, I finally test flew my H9 Extra 260 on Sunday. All the favorable reports were right on: Vey honest airframe w/ no bad habits. Moki 2.10 gives really unlimited vertical, very powerfull rudder too. Put a bolt thru landing gear per suggestion a few pages back and after 5 landings still OK. Landings were a piece of cake, plane can sustain rather high angle of attack before tip stalling - much more forgiving than other planes in this category. Nice inverted flat spins. This one's a keeper!

I have mine on the CG. Using a Cline Regulator. Works great.
Balances @ 5 1/8" with everything as far forward as possible.
11lbs 13.25 ozs = 24.01 oz/sqft
IMO this plane is just barely too small for a 50cc gasser.
I can hover all day long and have good pull out with an almost new
OS 1.6 FX. The DA50 is a rocket but this thing is 3.5 pounds lighter than
my buddies and even he said if he could do it over again he woulg go with the OS.
We have flown each others planes several times. Just some food for thought. Plus my planes harriers look unbelievable compared to his, Flat spins better, and lands like a trainer.

O.K. guys, after much delay, and missed opportunities, I maidened the 260 today.
BME 44 with a 20X8 prop
5 Hitec 5945's
13 lbs 12 ozs
With a gusting NE wind of 10 to 20 mph it wasn't the best day for a maiden, but I was tired of waiting. Take off was uneventful, rolls were very quick on low rates, knifeedge pulled to the gear. I'll need a little mix for that. Vertical is absolutely out of sight. I think a 50 cc might be a waste on this bird, unless you just happen to have one.
I pulled it back to high idle and kept the nose up till the left wing tried to drop. It was very slow and not violent. The wind on approach was more northerly, which put it nearly straight across the runway, blowing the ship toward the flight station. I had to keep it a little faster to crab it in and it wanted to keep flying on touchdown. It came back up about 6 inches a couple of times, but softly.
No landing gear de-lamination or any other problems. The wind was getting a little more gusty so I quit while I was ahead. Hopefully I can put her up again tomorrow with a rudder elevator mix. I'm going to like this one.

Hi Mike, I'm just finishing up my extra 260 & I'll tell you this aircraft is one heck of a well built ARF. The build, hardware package, Instructions are great. One Question that maybe you could clarify for me. In the instructions it says to balance the CG on the top of the wing tips measure back 5" from the leading edge at the fuse. Does this mean from the wing tip over the curve of the wing or straight across the root. Other than that everythings plain & simple. Thanks

Guys,
Just a note to let you know that we now have an aluminum replacement gear available for the Extra 260. For those of you who prefer a more durable landing gear, this is a good solution. Its a direct replacement for the CF gear, is painted white like the CF as well. It weighs about 4.5oz more than the CF.
Personally I prefer the lower weight of the CF gear, but I know a some guys are concerned with the delamination that can happen with a CF gear and prefer to pay the weight penalty and not worry about it. The retail price of the gear is only $22.99. Keeping it inexpensive so its not a big deal if you prefer the aluminum gear.
The Extra will continue to come with the CF gear, since it is a high performance airplane, I want it to be sold as one. The CF gear will also still be available seperately.
