RE: New 50cc Yak
I don't know where my CG is exactly but I know it is a little tailheavy. I went with the longer DA Standoffs and My Ignition battery is right up front in engine box and my other batteries are right behind the fuel tank. I am also using a Mejzlik 23x8 prop and a 4" Spinner to help balance.

Mine is definitely tail heavy. Especially when the tank is low on fuel. It will take a few more flights to see just what all I need to adjust. I'll have to get out my trim chart and go down the list. I'll post assembled weight when it get around to weighing it.

RE: New 50cc Yak
About six months ago I purchased a set of wings for my Aerotech Yak due to unknown internal damage to the originals. Don't know if they got stomped in the warehouse or what but it wasn't shipping damage. John also sent me some covering to match the covering that they use on it in red and white. The stuff just doesn't shrink well and when heated gets very sticky like shelf paper on the back side. Low heat recommended. I felt support was good. The Python is available from Chief where I got my Yak. The SD Models Python in the TBM add is $729.00 plus shipping. Chief sells the Aerotech for $595.00 plus shipping. Quite a difference in price. Don't know what hardware comes with either one. Aeroworks also showed a 50cc Pitts Monster on their web site for a while. Don't know what the release date is on it or a price.

Since I had the plane in my basement for nearly two years without touching it John charged me $120.00 for the pair and shipped for free 2nd day delivery. I thought that was fair enough at the time and haven't given it a thought since. I know the UPS truck didn't do any damage to the box or contents upon initial inspection. If you get one look inside the wing roots and all around for damage right away as I should have done. It may save you some $$$$ down the road. The Yak flies fine as near as I could tell from two flights on a windy day with a slight tail heavy condition. In other words, the jury is still out. During assembly I had to adjust the horizontal stab incedences (slotted the mount screw holes and put a dab of silicon on the root when I tightened them) to get them to match each other and the wing at 0.

RE: New 50cc Yak
Hello,
I have been in and out of the shop alot. We do runs of kits. Also we are at the mercy of our outside vendors for items that can cause delays. I will respond to all today and tomorrow.
Thanks
John

I got six more flights on my Yak now and have been flying it with the tail heavy condition. It really drops the tail when you slow down and inverted has a climb rate that requires pulling on the stick to level it off. I just ordered my 3" standoffs from D/A and will try these in place of the 2.5" I now have and see if it does the trick. Hopefully it will since I really don't have anything else I want to hang on the engine box. Has anyone had to do this. I have read that some use the 3" but did you switch from the 2.5"? Thanks,
Kent

I have been flying my 50cc Yak for a year now. I have over 20 years in this sport, and the Aeroworks Yak is one of the best planes I've had the pleasure to fly! The DA 50 with a KS pipe lets me hover at 1/3 throttle. Some manuevers get so violent my buddy says I'm gonna snap the Yak in half, but after one year, not so much as even a broken hinge. I didn't have any of the fit up problems that I have read in this thread. The only additional things I recommend to to add some CA to the engine box, add some hardwood to the gear support, and seal all the control hinge lines.

Just picked up an NIB Aerotech Yak today. It will be my replacement for the Extra I have been flying for 5 years, but was lost to stupidity a week ago. Hope to get mine done in a little less time than some of you. Two days. We'll see if I can have it ready for Sunday. Going to be a looooong night.

Curious. Anyone done anything to block all that air from entering the fuselage? It looks to me like a lot of openings with no way to exit in the fusey. Rather than cut the cowl all up with exit holes, I'm considering blocking the lightening holes on the firewall and around the tank compartment and directing the incoming air into the canister area and then cutting away the covering at that exit point. This would give a flow-through of air without charging the fuselage and putting all that pressure on the canopy and such. Any issues with cooling so far?

Mine seems to run nice and cool. I haven't run it in extreme heat though. I cut all but one inch of the scoop and opened up the bottom of the cowl back to the first former and left about 1.5". I nearly lost my canopy last time I flew it. One of the blocks that the screw goes into on the side of the fuse come unglued and the canopy was raised up on that side. I don't know if it was the blender or all the air press. inside the fuse. Just reglued and flew again. Go over all covering seams with some sort of glue if you plan on using snoke.
