whoaa, Andy. bummer dude. I hate for anyone to ever have one go in like that.
do you have anymore post crash analysis yet? and I have to say to the doubters that I still havn't seen any kind of stress failures out of mine yet, I will start keeping better tabs on it though and report here ( I wil cut the covering of the wing if I have to)

The one case here my buddy was practicing snap rolls and the one wing blew apart. I had the Extreme Aircraft and trade it off to my brother. Flew great, loved it. He was flying it and a servo tore out of the servo bay on one wing. He saved the plane and repaired the area. It is still flying.

Hubb I would just keep looking down the row at the leading edge. I had noticable cracked ribs. I brushed them with epoxy anwith a brush on a stick. I am pretty sure that the leading edge covering let go during the snap, and whe wing flex opend a big enough hole in the cracked sheeting to presurize the wing. I was doing alot of walls with these wings.

I noticed some time ago that every rib on my right wing was cracked and the sheeting was poping up. I used thin CA to glue them back together. It seemed to take care of it so far. But I have to tell you, I really wonder if I could fly knife edge and land the plane the way Bill Hemple did ... guess I'll never know!

Never say never Dave, Just dont forget to switch to a higher rate rudder like I did to give yourself a fighting chance. Rattbelly and myself are gonna do the foam wings this winter. The way the fuse is built this thing will go the distance with sheeted foamies.

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
I have the CA Models (Colombo Anderson) "builder's kit" plane. I have read over and over that it is the same plane as the CH and your EA ARFs. I doubt this is so, since I notice little differences in how the planes are built, but I do not know for sure one way or another. That having been said, the CA Models planes come with sheeted foam wings. [sm=thumbup.gif]
I'd be willing to take some pics and measurements if anyone is interested. It would certainly be easier to get wings (through Aeroworks) than to go through the process of sheeting and "tubing" a pair of one-off foamies.
If the dimensions at the root are correct, you'd have minimal modifications to do....
Just a thought.
Happy T-Day!

I think the flying foam cores from flying foam will come tubed and match exactley. I have emailed to verify. I have also emailed aeroworks to find out availability and price. The flying foam cores will be around a hundo. This is the same guy who made the cores for Mike Hurleys AMA Extra.

I would still like to take you up on your offer. I will not be home for another week to measure so if someone else wants to that would be awesome.

I can CNC you the cores minus the wing tube cutout for $60 shipped if the post office will do it. May be a little more for shipping if they can't.

Hey guys, I have some wing info. I talked with John a Aerotech today. He is going to make ratbelly and I a full wing kit for this airplane. It will include cored with wing tubes cut, all wood for sheeting and capping, and the phenolic tubes. Its going to be under 2 hundy but I dont have an exact price yet. I packed up a wing today to send out. I think this plane is going to rock with foamies.

The Colombo Anderson wings are the same size, however the wing tube position is lower by 1/4 inch in the CA. So, I ordered foam cores from flyingfoam.com I also needed a set of cores for an Aeroworks 33% Edge. I spoke to AW about this at Toledo last year and their pricing was not competitive ($200 just for a pair of cores), so I also ordered these from flyingfoam.com

I think the wing kits could be here by next friday. I have been busy recovering the EA in monokote. I will post pics of the wing build and the attachment method for anyone interested.

Sure send some pictures. Had one and sent it off to my brother in SF. I miss it. Do you know of anybody wanting to sell an Extreme Aircraft??

Jeti Spin is the Kat's meow...
Maiden was yesterday. The Jeti Spin 200 ESC performed flawlessly. Motor and batteries were pretty warm after flying, but the big Jeti Spin 200 didn't break a sweat. The Jeti anti-spark feature sure is nice. I positively like the idea of not having to change connectors constantly.
This has been a joint project between myself and Kitman. Greg is on the sticks in the video below, while I manned the camera (she didn't fly near as pretty with me at the sticks). I had never flown anything this big before and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it flys. Bigger does fly better, and now I'm hooked! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
She's no speed demon horizontally, but the speed is more than adequate, and she doesn't seem to change speed one bit when you point her straight up
To recap, the components are;
Neu 2215-2Y "BAM" motor
Jeti Spin 200 ESC
12x8000mah Thunder Power Pro Lites
Single Hitec 5955's on alierons and rudder.
Hitec 5945's on each elevator.
Two Apogee 2250mah receiver packs with Smart-Fly Batshare
Fromeco regulator
Smart-Fly Power Expander
FMA FS8 receiver.
She sure is one sweet flying plane. Jeti rules!

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
That's AWESOME Don! So glad the maiden and following flights went beautifully... video shows a sleek and very well powered craft...
Great job... I'm just about ready to start assembling my own project... it's been slow in coming together, but I have the goodies... so it's time to just put the nose to the grindstone...
I did custom design a motor mount for the BAM motor... got a couple sets made up...
There's a rear ring that's lined with glow fuel tubing... it's a tight press fit and really locks the rear of the motor in place while allowing for "padding".
The rear standoffs can be replaced for any distance a person might need.
Anywho... way to go!

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
I just finished my EA 300 and flew it for the first time yesterday. I got three successful flights on it and went through the '07 Sportsman IMAC sequence with it. It's going to take more trimming to get it flying straight, but I was pleased.
It's a pretty standard setup, DA-100, J-tech compact muffs, 8611a's, TBM 2800 mAh's, Fromeco regs and switches, Smartfly Power Expander and a DX-7 tx.
I took a fair amount of wood and foam out of the belly, some wood out of the engine box, and a little more here and there. The big change is that I had Pro1Foam cut me a set of cores, so this one has sheeted foam wings with no dihedral. The whole thing is covered in TF Monokote. I don't have a scale but I would guess it weighs somewhere between 7 and 45 lbs.

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way

can't wait to get mine in the air.
happy flying

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
Funny I just came back accross this thread,
Update on my EA 34%. I discovered I have finally broken one of the CA hinges on the rudder. it is the one on the very bottom where the pull-pull control horns are. I had these double up with B&B hinges, but I guess the tension on the pull-pull was enough of a strain. I have had no other issues with hinges and this plane has 2 seasons of IMAC on it now - couldn't even guess the number of flights. problem is all the hinges will have to be cut off to replace the one. will probably use Robart Hinges as the replacement.
still going!

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
I had pulled the bottom three hinges out of my rudder, and I also used double the amount off hinges that it came with. I replaced them with robart hinges and used a polyurethane glue which expands as it dries. It held so well that when I recently crashed my plane it pulled the back of the plane apart and not one hinge came loose.

RE: Stay tuned, Extreme Aircraft Extra 300 on the way
Thanks to all for the information on this thread. I found it useful as I built my CHP Extra ARC that I purchased a couple of years back. I had the maiden on Sunday and all went well. I look forward to many, many flights on this well flying plane.
