Anyone Else Sick of Graphtech Tailgear?
Man... this stuff is annoying me.
I had a 22 lbs set shear off right at the pivot.
I cannibalized the wire/wheel off another set.... that one shed the rubber off the tire either on flight or on a soft landing... don't know when it left.
The wire on a 30 lbs set is slowly bending backward (27 lbs plane).
The rubber from the same gear just departed the aircraft either in flight or on a normal landing.
I cannibalized the rubber off another set I just got for another plane... glued it on this time.
These things are too friggen expensive to keep self destructing like this.
Is there a better solution for a lightweight tailwheel??? RCBlimp no longer makes the 35% tail gear they had that looked fantastic.

RE: Anyone Else Sick of Graphtech Tailgear?
TBM told me they are having a hard time getting them and they haven't even seen a Ti wheel yet... said the business is run out of a guy's house and he can only make them in his spare time... apparently he's been busy.
That being said, I just found RCBlimp's website and e-mailed him to find out what kind of wait there would be... I really like the look of his products. The website you just posted has them for $7 cheaper than RCBlimp direct!!!
He also sells carb plates to help clean up the midrange... is this a worthwhile investment?

Most if not all Graphtec products SUCK!
First he cheated selling fiberglass landing gear for Carbon, then his honeycomb panels delaminate and tail wheel assembly is just another bunch of…
Why would someone put so much time and effort on a plane to risk it all with someone’s product like Graphtec’s?
Get the one from Aircraft International, Gerhard and Kevin like to make $ but at least they sell quality!
Have you tried Dave Patrick’s? they are very nice also.

I know Shawn Berkheimer very well, and yes he is busy. He gets orders from
Composite Arf and DA Australia. when this happens and he gets single orders as
well, he includes the singles in his total count to manufacture. He was having a problem
finding quality titanium with which to make the gears with, and it is expensive. This problem
has been solved and an order of titanium was delivered today, production to start soon.
Yes the carb plates are worth it as they do work. Most all of the IMAC pilots flying IMAC
competition on the West Coast use them on their DAs and he has sent many out of state as
well.
Keep in mind that all of the RCBlimppro products come with a lifetime warranty. If and when
something fails, you send it back for repair or replacement.

To each their own I guess. I have ran about 5 sets of the Graphtech tailwheels on my planes, done several harrier tail first landings right on the things and never a failure. My advice is do not buy them, the price will go down and I will get them cheaper then.

Chip hyde has a nice tailwheel available. I got mine from him at Toledo and have about 80 flights on it with no problem. It's not carbon or Titanium but it's plenty light enough.

RE: Anyone Else Sick of Graphtech Tailgear?
Thanks all. I'm getting some of the RCBlimp Pro tailwheels (replacing all of mine... on all two planes) and I'm also going to try a couple of those carb plates... nice bling that I'll never see after it's mounted... hopefully all the hype is correct.

Sillyness,
I too have had some trouble with Graphtech tail gear. The carbon leaf is awesome. Once the wire breaks you need to just install a better piece of music wire. I stand mine straight up. That way it never leans back too much and gets bent from landing.

Is RCSupergear still in business?
I've sent them several e-mails and they don't respond.
I sent them a set of stock gear for a JTEC plane 6 months ago... it was so they could make a mold for a new set of carbon gear... I was supposed to get a free set of the carbon stuff when it was done. I wound up having to buy a new set of TNT gear so I could fly, and now I'm out shipping and the price of a new set of gear. I'm a little T'd.

RE: Anyone Else Sick of Graphtech Tailgear?
My Graphtek holds up nice on my 33% Extra 330 at 24 lbs. I use the one made for the Lanier Kit.
As for tail wheels. I spoke with Pierre from Pete models which mostly make carbon spinners. He told me he was to release tail wheel also. His gears are supposed to weight less than 1 oz and be made for 33-35% planes. All hardware included.

RE: Anyone Else Sick of Graphtech Tailgear?
I have 4 Graph Tech Tailgear and 3D weaved main gear, all on larger planes and they work great. I fly off grass which is harder on gear than pavement. It says on their site that they have updated the tail wire assembly with different metal and have changed the shape to help breaking in the first bend. I called in (1 call) after I read the update on their site, and they mailed me a spare new wire. Looks slightly different. Also, a funny note.......Graph Tech says they make the tail gear for Aircraft Intnl.!![X(] I find them to be very easy to work with....makes me wonder how much effort some of the negative guys here are really making...or if they have other motives.[sm=punching.gif] I'm with Jwilliams on this!!
