RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
John,
Just a little humor to lighten things up, but why did that have to happen to your AM Yak
rather than your AW edge? I know how much you love that edge .

Greg, funny you should ask, I sold the edge yesterday to a guy from Misouri. He drove 7 hours in an old pickup with his kids in the back to pick it up. He was happier than heck, that made two of us!
Hey, good news. Just got an e-mail from Sammy, they will have the new composite gear for the 33% in one month. He told me I could announce it on RCU He'll know the exact weight and pricing in about 1 week. Sounds like it's going to be lite. I'll have one for sure. The next batch of 33% yaks will be here in about a week, one is mine

John,
Glad to hear you finally rid yourself of it. Maybe you can use some of the proceeds to help
pay for the new Yak until you recover your money from the guy who shot you down. Thanks
for letting us know the new composite gear is on the way! I'm tired of the stock aluminum
gear.

The following are the comparisions with the stock aluminum gears
Models Alumimum Gear Carbon Fibre Gear
121" 37.5% Yak 710 grammes 300 grammes U.S.$170.00
( over 25 oz ) (less than 11oz )
95" 33% Yak 408grammes 180grammes U.S.$ 130.00
(over 14 oz) (less than 7 oz)
Maybe the prices sound high, however, we have invested lots of money on the
toolings per size of airplane.
I can guarantee you, these are superb quality, and you can never find the same
in the industry.
These are specially made by machine high pressure hot pressing the carbon
fibres, you will never able to find any delaminations from our Carbon fibre
gears.
For customer information, the followings are available at Kent,WA.
1. We have stocks of the 37.5% Yak Carbon Fibre gears at Kent,WA.now.
2. We have 30% to 33% Carbon fibre tailwheel bracket available at Kent,WA.Now.
The retail price is 35.00 plus shipping.
3.We have 35%-40% Carbon fibre tailwheel bracket available at Kent,Wa,now. The
retail price is 45.00.plus shipping.
4. The 33% Yak Carbon fibre landing gear will be available in a month time.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
OK, its my turn. my Yak is done, it was too windy to fly today so that was a good time to start & run up my engine, alittle tuning, let the vibration loosen what it can ( one servo arm bolt ), taxied around, and now it's ready and so am I so tomorrow's the day, high winds of 10 mph, 85 to 90 degrees and sunny. LETS GO FLYING.

Here are a couple of pics of the gear for the 37.5%. The quality is second to none. Airfoil shape to the gear, forward sweep and bowed like the real ones. These are stiff as can be, have a mirror finish, and are LIGHT!. Definitely worth the money. sorry for the poor pics. If the sun stays out, I will try to get some better quality ones later. Craig

jmiracle, thanks for the info. Nogyro, my 80cs is really humming, I am now running a Vess 27A and it is pulling that prop with authority, just ripping the snot out of both 26x10s I tried (mejzlik and PT). Airplane is a keeper.

Hey Guy,
What do you think about just using the Vess 27A for break in?
Did you ever get RPM numbers on the26-10 (what brand) versus the 27A. I will be using the Johnson side muffler and hope it will be breathing well enough for the 27A to start.

I believe the planes will be in the warehouse on monday morning 33%. Once they are shipped usually you will receive an email saying it was shipped out.
I think a 27" prop is to much for the 80 on breakin. I would be sticking to a 26x10 for a while.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
I ran the mejzlik 26x10 and PT Models 26x10 for 3 gallons before trying the Vess. Keep in mind my motor was the CS and a cannister, meaning more power than a stock 80 on a pitts muffler. The new Vess 26" props are coming shortly and that would be the best bet for a stock 80 and pitts muffler.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
FWIW I got an updated tach reading today on my 3W80/canister setup. I've got almost 5 gallons through it now, and just about ready to finish up my 40:1 mix and will be going to 50:1. My first reading a couple of weeks ago was 6000 rpm. I'm at 6330 now with the Bolly Wood 26x10. I've been told that the Bolly loads more than a Menz. All I know it's got incredible thrust and the two guys holding it down couldn't believe the pull. I still don't think I've leaned it out all the way yet, so there still may very well be a few more hundred rpm in there. My fuel consumption is down to 11 oz. for a 15 minute flight of mixed IMAC/3D stuff. This thing just sips fuel, but with so much extra power, I very seldom use full throttle.
50 flights on it now, header is holding up just fine, starting to get the throttle curve zeroed in, and my hatch seems to be holding up.
I'm VERY impressed with the 3W. You just couldn't ask for a more user friendly engine..........

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
Hey guys, I am gathering up for an order of servo extensions and have two questions.
1. Anyone have an idea of servo lengths for wings, tail and throttle?
2. When running a Y for the wings does it matter if the Y is closer to the receiver or not?
Thanks. Since I dont have the airplane in front of me I would be guessing but would still love to have all the supplies here when the airlpane arrives.

I believe it was 24" for the outside servo on each wing and 36" for the elevator servo's. Throttle and rudder didn't need an extension
Get the twisted aileron extensions. I also used a 6" twisted Y harness on each wing.

Thanks John. Any word on you new plane shipping out yet? I should be getting a ship notification any day now.
Question, what extension length for the inside wing servo or did it go to the Y?
What size Y? How about any extension for the pull pull rudder? I will use Hitec Digitals and program the wing servos.

inside servo goes straight to the Y, no extension on the rudder if you put the reciever close enough. 6" twisted Y. I gave you the link at donalds hobby for everything
I guess the 33% is hung up in port, should be released on Friday. Should have the plane in a couple of weeks.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
Thanks John,
What a change a day makes. Cactus told me yesterday that they were in the[EDIT Aviation Models] warehouse and mine would ship today.
For you guys using the Hitec 5945 this thread was dead since Oct. 2004 but suddely came back to life. At this point I am taking everything with a grain of salt.

I put over 500 flights with my 5945's in each of my WH 28% planes. Never a problem out of them. Took the servos out of the crashed one [X(] and they're in the Yak now.........Run HD extensions and keep the voltage up on them and I don't think you'll have a problem with them. Also if your going to use nicad or nimh batteries, make sure they are low impedance type.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
i bit the bullet 2 weeks ago while on vacation and ordered a 33% yak from chief (used my own shipping company though). the plane has the red, white and blue scheme. (see pics below).
i have a couple of quick questions for you guys.
1) i am planning to use 8611's all the way around, with the two for rudder on a failsafe swb tray. has anyone tried a giant servo in the supplied location or has everyone cut that mount out and went with two?
2) i tried to mount my stab servos, but can't seem to get them seated into the mounting hole. are the holes too small for the 8611?? if so, what tool / method was used to make them fit? also, once you get the servo in the hole, how do you get the servo arm attached??
thanks!
tony
