27% ULTIMATE - DO I HAVE ENOUGH PROP CLEARANCE ?
My World Models 27% Ultimate is 3000 miles away from me right now and I want to pick up some props. Does anyone who has one know if there is enough clearance with the stock gear for 23" & 24" props.

Don, What engine are you planning?

I just bought a Taurus TS52 and I want to use an 8 pitch prop so it seems I will have to use a 23" or 24". The plane is at my summer home and I won't be there until May and I want to have the props in hand when I do. According to most informed TS52 owners the TS52 has a lot of low end grunt and I also want to keep the noise level down but I also want to stay with an 8 pitch prop. I'm pretty sure there is enough clearance but some first hand knowledge would be nice.
Thanks for the interest.

It'll be close, depending on the length of the landing gear. Better to conside obtaining a wide 22-8 from MSC just in case. I wouldn't buy any 24" props until you know they will clear.
A 23" Menz comes in at around 22-1/2"

You will have 131/2- 14" clearance. I don't see a problem with a 22.23, or 24 inch prop. I hope this helps.

I'd sure like to know how that distance was obtained. I have a 29% Ultimate and I have 5 inches or less of prop clearance with the plane in a level flight position using a 22 inch prop. Was that distance obtained with the plane in a three point position? If so, then it won't be of much use when the tail comes up during the take off roll. With 13-14" of clearance, I would figure the plane to be in the 60 to 75% size range.

I understood him to mean it measured 13.5 - 14" from crankshaft to the ground ( wings level ) which means to me a 24" prop would give you 1.5 - 2" prop clearance. The way he worded it was not quite clear, correct me if I'm wrong.

I measured it in the level flight position. This could also be called wings level position. Also, the horizontal stripes on the side of the fuselage are parallel with tierra firma. I also measured it twice, just to verify my numbers.

Yep, that's the way I understood it. If it lands anything like my Goldberg Ultimate did I could use a 30" prop. That plane landed fully stalled, tailwheel first, as a matter of fact I had to replace the tailwheel a few times from showing off.
