Unfortunately, I made a promise to the manufacturer a couple of months back not to release the name until they said to. I can say that it's not either of those you named, but from a known quality manufacturer/distributor that is also fairly well known for low pricing.

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
I believe the new BME Extra 330L is also designed around that weight with an 87' span.

In about a month there will be a new 50cc Edge with more wing area than most anything out there coming in with a flying weight real close to 15.5 pounds. It's been designed pretty much entirely around 3D. Not a rumor but absolute fact.

A 15.5 pound 50 powered plane is fun - but keep on adding wing area and even without adding ANY more weight - you quickly run into the issue of drag -
My old Extremeflight YAK was just lighter than that and all in all worked great - but even more power would have been bette for high wind-
weight in wind makes things worse -not better
for wind -add power - lots of it.

Last year we at Wild Hare did a completely new Extra 300 mid wing which has been very well received. The plane comes in under 16 lbs if one is careful about what one uses, the heaviest DA-50 equipped weight I have heard of is 16 lbs. 7 Oz., and many are at 15 1/2. It's still fairly rugged, I hate a frail plane that won't last.
We used that basic airplane as a template and came up with a new Edge 540T. It's the same basic specs as the old one except that on average it is 1 1/2 lbs lighter, has more wings area (over 1400 sq. in., I don't have the exact numbers in front of me.
It comes in the same color scheme as the old ones, but is a much better 3d performer (the old one was no slouch, either) and is our usual 95% completion, includes canister tunnel, wider cowl and fuse, long tinted canopy, larger rudder, and relocated tail surfacesx that should eliminate any wing rocking.
All of these changes were proved out in the new Extra so this plane will need no debugging. The first batch should be here before Xmas!
The new plane is not on the Wild Hare web site yet, you will just have to take my word for it.

That's awesome Tom! Ever improving your already great designs... Once in the md to higher weights for it's class.. you're bringing them to the lower end... fantastic!

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
Ifyou can keep weight from increasing - lower wing loading is always better - for flight -using the wing . (power loading stays UP.)
In futzing around with my EDGES -higher power loading ( lots of instant thrust) is better for 3D than low wing loading -- IF there were a choicethat had to be made.
My clipped wing EDGE with tip plates is better than the stock wing stuff and tho the wing loading is a bit higher -the big increase in power makes the real difference. (same weights -same plane H9)
The low loading does allow for more gentle low speed stuff and better for the High AOA stuff -- providing the span stays down
We did a lot of experimenting with large - flat foam models trying to see "which works best" and the 16 ounce 400 sq in SuperStar we scaled up from a IKARUS was best slow flight -with Hacker 20.20 outrunner. -outdoors model My son plays with indoors stuff and 5 ounce stuf is best there - in either case very slow speed -fast acceleration- required
The new Wild Hare looks good - either my eyes or the perspective of the new model appears to have relatively shorter wings that previous offerings . This can help - a lot. should be good flyer!

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
Guys I almost have my 40% edge done and I was wondering it I could compete in imac well with it. I know an extra is a better choice but I was wondering if this is exceptable???

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
Edge's a great designs too... they were VERY popular for some time... and then the slide back to Extras... as Yaks came into play... we began to see another slide...
You'll find Edge's (and most all other aerobatic scale designs) at IMAC contests... It's what YOU personally find suitable to your style and touch.
Worry not... your 40% Edge will perform well if built/assembled/outfitted well and true.

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
I just had a chance to look at Quique's 86" Yak video... DA50 with a canister pipe... 1420 sq in and 16.5 lbs... the video shows some amazing power to weight at 800 ft ASL...
http://www.qqaircraft.com/html/downloads.html#85yak
Betwen this, EF's soon to be announced 50cc, Ultra RC's 50cc Yak, PAU's 30% Extra 330L, Wild Hare's new lighten Edge, and a few other noteworthy items already mentioned... how can amyone go wrong????
07 is gonna be a fun year!

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
I agree with you Dave, that's a very nice new QQ Yak. 2007 is going to go down as the year of "Wing Area" with these companys raising the bar in this area.. Kinda like to see a sneak preview of EF's 50cc Yak..
Did you see the League RC Yak's ? Claims 1488 sq in for the Wing Area. There's a build thread going at Flying Giants
http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...gue-yak54.html
Not to mention this planes selling for $395 shipping incl'd. Might be a good bang around plane , time will tell if it turns out better.

Needs more power -- My 15.25 lb EFYak with the ZDZ 50crankin 7500-8400 was quicker and quieter
I never could fly like QQ does but powerwize- lighter and more power is easily possible
been there .
my Edge is even quicker and quieter
You guys are holdin back -where are the hot rodders??

When I get back I'll be able to provide a solid flight report on the new W/H 28% Edge. I'll be using a brand new Taurus 52 for the power plant. It adds a couple of ounces over a DA but the higher output more than offsets the weight difference, plus I just love a smooth mid range. No extra unneccessary gizmos or widgets to clutter up the weigh in. In fact, the electrical supply may well come from a Lo-poly battery instead of my usual Lithion, coming in lighter still.

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
I have a H9 260 with a evolution 45gt, JTec custom muffler, 2 heavy nicads, 4731's all around, two switches, aluminum gear, and 20oz tank... My dry weight is 13lbs 7ozs. I like to snap it hard left, and pop up into a hover/torque roll about 5 feet off the deck... Pretty cool variation to a wall... LOL! Harrier upright/inverted is very strong... hover at less than 1/2 throttle, and torque rolls very well... Can't lock in rollers (it's the pilot not the plane), and must use spoilers for inverted elevator... High alpha knife edge couples to the gear, and basically this is the only 'stressful' manuver... It feels like it could snap out any second... It hasn't yet. [X(]
my list for balls to the wall 3D would be:
1. QQ Yak
2. TOC Yak
3. WH Edge at 17lbs
4. BME Edge any version
5. WH Extra (I like the 300lx at 17lbs, but the new version would be the best buy).
EF Yak is not available, so I left it off... It would be number 1, if I could get one.

RE: 50cc Battle Off!!!
I don't have a lot of experience with these size airplanes but give me some time. I have three airplanes this size and I intend to transform my array of .25,.46,.60,.90 stuff into a couple more or something 35%.
This is what I got:
1. Kangke Texas Hurricane 78" 3.2 Brison. It looks like an Edge but the wing area is bigger. It flies so slow it freaks people out at the field. I have the older model and the rudder is very big and the elevator is huge. LOVE IT.
2. Kangke Laser 87". Just bought a DA-50 for it to replace a Moki 2.10. Another great flying airplane although not alot of vertical with the Moki but it only had a 20x8.
3. World Models Extra 80" 2.10 Moki. 20x10 Zinger Pro. Had to have it. Silver and blue with stars and bars. Good looking scheme. Very light. Could use some attention to detail inside fuse and the ply rudder tray is a little flimsy. Ailerons are great big. At $200 w/box damage it was a steal.
The Extra is recommended for O.S. 1.60. GET REAL! Any plane that size can handle a 2.10 and any plane that can handle a 2.10 can handle a DA-50. Right? Anyway these are three planes I can actually recommend. Not top of the line but great fliers for great value.
Kangke now makes a 106" 35% Extra for $595. No foam wing or tail. All built up. Very tempting.
