Default 1/3 Turbo Ravin Kit. Power Plant Question

Hey Guys,

I am testing the waters here to see if there would be interest in a Turbo prop version of a 1/3 scale Turbo Raven kit.

Currently the plane is powered by a Mac 85 twin but I am interested in pursuing a functional turboprop; possibly a MW54 or similar turbine. I have been told that a small turbine can produce a huge amount of static thrust. One of my concerns is what would the lag be from Min to Full throttle?

If the turbo prop version pans out I would like to then add a functional proportional prop.

Please let me know if this sounds interesting to you or if you have any ideas / suggestions.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely

David Mosher.

Default 1/3 Turbo Ravin Kit. Power Plant Question

Do you produce that kit?? What are the specs, does it 3D and all that good stuff??I have always liked the turbo raven, but it has never been made availiable.

Ideas for the turbo prop,

dont spool the turbine, run on pitch only because the lag willl be tremendous. It'll be fun trying to get all of that equipment into the cowl for the gearing and such.

Whats the price on the kit?

Default 1/3 Turbo Ravin Kit. Power Plant Question

Hello,

Yes I do now produce the kit. The wing is 102 inches. You can go to http://pages.sbcglobal.net/davidmosher/index.html for more info.

Currently the short kit is 750 with a deluxe kit to follow but that will depend on how well the short kit is received.

I have been wondering about using a similar set up as a helicopter where the RpM is constant with a swash plate type device for prop pitch. Maybe I can get JD Enterprises to create an ecu that will allow the pilot to set the RPM through a modal switch and then back for landings.

What do you think?

David.

Default Turbo Raven

Hi David
I see you have the Turbo Raven done, WOW it really looks fantastic and it's a perfect aircraft for the JDE Turbo prop, Can't wait to see it go let me know when we can get together to test fit the engine in it.

That simulated Turbo exhaust looks great with the round cylinders. When are you going to have some video of this bird?

Default 1/3 Turbo Ravin Kit. Power Plant Question

Hello EJB,

The Mac 85 performs very well; it seems to get stronger the more we run the engine. Currently the Raven is 26 Lbs Dry. The Mac will allow the Raven to hover but not power out quickly. I have been looking at a DA100 which should give the Raven great 3D capability.

Take Care

David.
