I love my Aeromasters!
I maidened it two weekends ago but really started to ring it out this past Sunday. The motor is a Zenoah G45 with a 20-8 prop. That combo flys it just fine. No radical 3D or unlimited vertical but that isn't the way I fly.
Slow it down and it is as tame as a kitten. Open it up and it does all the classic maneuvers by the book. I have it equiped with Sullivan smoke feeding a Pitts-style muffler. Smoked great with the first throw of the switch. 20oz fuel and smoke tanks give me plenty of time in both areas.
The baby brother has an OS61 and really zips along but is quite calm when slowed down. They both land easy and pretty.
I also have the GP Super Aeromaster still in the box and will build that (probably over the winter) to complete the series.
Happy Landings....

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
Chevelle,
Gotta agree with ya. I LOVE my Giant Aeromaster. Fly mine with a US 41cc, and just like yours...won't do 3d, but I don't think it was meant to be flown that way. IMO, this plane is meant to remind you of old crop dusters and barnstormers, and that's EXACTLY what it does. Definitely, though, the 41 will zing her right around for those cool high speed inverted passes down the runway.
Here's mine. (Sorry about the poor photos...screencaps from a video)

I'm still wondering if there is a larger Aeromaster than the GP "Giant," that I have. It's the best flying Bipe I've ever flown. Quadra, 42. Youy can see a picture of mine if you look at the bottom of this post, and hit the "MY MODELS" tab. Also I have a WACO, UAF bipe, and a Balsa USA FLY BABY. I just love all bipes. My present project is an 97" GEE BEE Y, W/5 cylinder radial.

The original Aeromaster was designed and kitted by Lou Andrews. It had a 52" wingspan and was designed to be powered by a .60/.61-size engine. The "Super Aeromaster" was the same airplane, but had different options as to how you could build the wings. Andrews Aircraft Model Co. was purchased by Great Planes Model Manufacturing in the 1980's.

BAX......Thanks, That answers my question.I am very failure with the smaller (original) Aeromaster. Which I sold in my Hobby Shop, in Ft Worth Texas. It was kitted by Lou's company "AAMCA," along with his other designs........The S-Ray, H-Ray, Sportsmaster, Trainermaster, A-Ray, Minimaster, Big H-Ray, Quick Ray, and the X-Ray, The last kit he designed in 1980. The Aeromaster was designed in 1966. Another not very well known fact is that Lou Andrews, was the first person to throttle an rc glo-plug engine. (1949) What can I say......I too love my Aeromaster.

I learned to fly RC with the "Trainermaster". Converted it to a taildragger after awhile. Great memories with that plane.[8D] Oh, I did crash it into the bay on its and my maiden![X(]

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
I've been flying my GP Aeromaster with ST 90 for 2 years now and I absolutely love the handling and capabilities of this aircraft but I need to go bigger. Does anyone have or know where I can get plans with templates for the Giant Aeromaster. I thought I had found a kit, but it had been picked over. Besides that, the guy wanted an arm, leg and first born for it so I was forced to pass (easy decision). Anyway if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be a very happy camper.

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
Chevelle,
I also have Giant and original Aeromasters. I built the original one (an "Aeromaster Too") back in the early 80s from an AAMCO kit and still fly it periodically (it's so old, I hate putting it at risk). I got the GA (airframe only) in a trade several years ago but have never flown it. For my old fashioned tame style of sport flying, I've been hoping a G38 I already have would be enough power (I think it was originally powered with a US41). What does yours weigh? Looks like you built your GA with two swept-back wings and the original as top swept, bottom straight...just the reverse of my two.

Hay Chevelle very nice planes.
Does any one have any thoughts about putting the Saito 150 in the Giant Aeromaster ARF?
Also is there a sensible technical answer to the debate weather to use 2 or 4 servos in the ailerons.
Thanks GP love this plane!

Mine weighs in around 16lbs. Not light. I would definitely recommend something stronger than the G38. Mine has a G45. The Brison or other lighter engine of that same size would be good too. I had to add tail weight. Even so, it flies great. I would not go with the G62 or something that strong. This plane looks odd hovering and doing 3D stuff IMO. So a 41-50 is what I would recommend.

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
Great looking video and smoke system.
I am picking up this GP Giant aeromaster today and have a Brillelli 40GT engine I plan one using. It is much like a Brison 2.4 in power and weight. Will I have to cut up the cowl very much to get it to fit right? The cowl does look a little narrow for a engine with the carb and muffler coming out the side of the cylinder like the Brillelli 40GT or Brison 2.4. With the engine weighing in at only 3lbs 4oz complete will I need to add any weight to the nose or can I just move my two batteries around for that?
Thanks

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
You'll have to hack up the cowl, add weight and you can't do much with the batteries. I got the 43 Fugi in mine and you have to cut the bottom for the head and the side for the carb and depending on what you have for muffler you'll have to do something on that side. The Fugi just fits as far as muffler goes so I did not have to put a hole in the muffler side. I added 9 ounces of weight on the firewall to balance it. The ignition battery area is very small and its really hard to get into any of the space directly behind the firewall so relocating weight up front is very difficult. You'll need a new tailwheel assembly, the one provided in the kit is worthless. Its a great flying plane, I really enjoy mine. My first bipe and its not going to be my last. Enjoy, Jerry.

RE: I love my Aeromasters!
I have a GP super Aeromaster. It is the old one. I know it will take like a .90 to 1.20 4 stroke. Do you think a 25cc gas engine would be to much for it? There is alot of planes that takes a 1.20 4 stroke that a 25cc gas can fly
