Looks like the bandwidth has been exceeded. Hopefully it'll be up again soon.

I had to do this before, too, but wasn't as fortunate because the engine died. Billy will tell you that a plane will fly quite well in KE with one wing panel - it's not that big a deal...

Not that big a deal!!!!!? This is an impressive display of quick thinking and pilotage skill. Never give up is my motto and obviously others as well. Pilots, never give up. Just glad someone was there to get this on camera. What a stroke of fortune for us all. Thanks so much.

Dude are you serious??? I am 100% sick of your attitude! I do fly 3D, and that has absolutely nothing to do with flying fricking knife edge - it was around long before 3D and I was flying KE years before 3D was discovered. Where in my friggin' post did I say I was as good or better a pilot than Billy Hempel??? The only thing amazing about this is that it was caught on video tape. It has happened several times to several people in the past with the same or similar results. GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very impressive. I have practiced this on the sim - simulating a rudder servo failure locked in full throw. Bill is a very good pilot! However, 99% of this feat was due to him keeping his head and not simply staring at the potential crash with his jaw hanging open. A good case for learning to fly the left stick too!

the rudder servo wasn't locked in at full through and i bet 80% of pilots who know how to fly would keep on trying to save their plane and not just stare, what kind of idiot would freak and just give up on $2000.

I realize the rudder servo was not locked - just made the point that I practice knife-edge landings on the sim. I bet more than 80% of "sunday fliers" would have simply chopped the throttle and watched it crash.

And even easier if you tighten down the wing bolt!
And even easier if you tighten down the wing bolt!
Hard to argue with advice like that...

That was a awesome save! To have a wing come off and not know when it's going to happen, and to have the composure to keep flying it IS a very big deal!!!!!! Great skills and ability.......
WILDCATONE- Bill has already said it was NOT the planes fault. He didn't have the correct wing bolt so he improvised with what he had at the time. It wasn't the correct bolt he had to put in and it backed out, allowing the wing to come off.
