RE: Extreme Flight 88
Thanks for the info on the wing bag Joe.
Here's a good read on plane setup. Let me know what you guys think.
Remember that 7955 with 333 oz of torque are based on a 1 " servo arm. So a 2" servo arm with a 7955 will give you 166 oz of torque.

Mike if you have a 1" servo arm and 1" control horn you get the entire 333 at the surface. If you have a 2" servo arm and a 2" control horn you still get the entire 333. It's actually the ratio of control horn to servo arm that determines the mechanical advantage. So if you have a 2" control horn and a 1 inch servo arm that a 2:1 mechanical advantage. That would give you 666 in-oz at the surface. A 1" control horn and a 2" servo arm you are correct, that would give you only 166 at the surface. It's a ratio of the two not just the servo arm that tells you how much of that servo torque is getting to the surface. Hope that helped. Your attachment sort of discussed that ratio. Peter said he had 1.5:1 for IMAC. That a very good ratio. 2:1 would be even better if it would get him the throws he needed for IMAC.
For 3D I'm right around 1.25:1 That's still pretty good and that's 3D setup. I don't think the Hitec 7955's were out when Peter wrote this article. We get tons of torque and 2048 resolution these days. Peter didn't have those kinds of servos in those days. He's right if you keep the control horn the same and just double the servo arm length. You will get half the servo torque at the surface. I don't know anybody doing that. With servos getting almost 60 degrees of travel even at 1.25:1 you get almost 50 degrees at the surface.

Oh I forgot to post what I was going to orginally post. I went on and on about the servo geometry. Today was our day before father's day fun fly at my club. Talk about wind flying. It was bad. Sunny and 80 but windy. The most fun I had was flying to one end of the runway and torque rolling to the other side. Anything else was like flying a kite. I wonder if we will ever have good flying days this season. It has not been good. I'm glad this Yak is such a good landing plane. In such guts I would never fly my Extra. It tends to just drop like a brick when a gust lets up. The Yak is a total dream to land no matter how windy. Perfectly soft touch downs every time no matter how windy. This is a great plane.

Thanks Joe. I was assuming everyone was using the stock EF Yak horn. Mine are 1" I believe, Although I have not measured them. It took me about 3 weeks to go over Peters steps and it did make the plane easier to fly. Good points that work somewhat with both IMAC and 3D.
Just a little off topic but I had my first flight with my EF Outlaw with a webra 36 on it. What a blast and what a difference, 140 mph is going to take some getting use to. LOL

It's more calm today and I'm heading out to fly. Should be fun. Not as sunny but less wind.

Here's some from today. It was prestine wind conditions. Going from total wind yesterday to calm today took some getting used to, in a really good way.
A buddy took some really good video that I'll post as soon as he gets it to me.

Yeah these planes give you confidence to bring it down. I got some rudder dragging on video but I don't know when that'll be ready. He's gotta edit it. Took about 13 minutes of video. Today was some seriously perfect 3D weather. And just think yesterday it was gusting to over 30mph. Our weather is wack here this spring.

Looking good Joe!!
Here is a few pictures from this weekend. I maidened my Edge onFridayand got about a dozen flights on it over the weekend. It's one Bad ***** 3D machine.

Thanks Richard. Those A123 packs I got from you are working awesome. I love the Deans charge jacks. 4 amps charges those packs in no time.
Here are some more pic's. This guy at our field has a kick ***** camera. Worth more than my Yak for sure.
Hey Charles, nice pic's thanks for sharing. Can you compare the Edge to your Extra and Yak? I imagine it's just better since Chris doesn't do anything unless it's perfect.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
As the Yak is my first gas plane where are folks installing the vent from fuel tank? On my jets I always use a pipe or right angle fitting directly into the airflow so as to keep a positive pressure on the tank.
Thanks

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Alan almost any gas guy will route his vent just like this pic. Loop it to the back of the tank to keep fuel from leaking out when you are in any attitude. Then right down and out the bottom of the fuse so you can access it if you need to catch the over flow when you fill the tank. We don't need positive pressure in the tank but you could point the vent just like your jet. The pressure doesn't hurt a thing on the Walbro carbs. Not needed though. The carbs have pumps that are pretty powerful.

Got enough velcro wraps on that bad boy joe?
And yes, i routed my vent exactly like that. Works like a charm, although I don't really ever catch my overflow, but it may be a good idea to try it out

i didnt do the loop like joe to go back toward the front, i did run it up and over then just out behind the tank, so mine tinkles about half way back of the fuse when full

RE: Extreme Flight 88
I just went to install the pipe I have brought to go with my DLE 55 and found it is too large a diameter to fit the pipe 'box' the problem area is where the depth is less due to the ply undercarriage. The header is fine but the pipe wants to sit equally either side of this ply mounting plate. The pipe is too big by around 1/4" This pipe was sold for a DLE 55 which I quess is right as the header fits. What diameter pipes is typical for a 50-55cc?
Any suggestions as to which pipe I could use that WILL fit! [:@]

RE: Extreme Flight 88
I think this is a problem that everybody has had.
I think most are just cutting away the area you need to make the pipe fit.
On mine I'm using a tuned pipe which ins narrower in that area and it "barely" fits.
So that is an option...more power also.
But, it is a problem. But the solution is to just cut away the area you need.
Thanks
