Thanks for the info Rennie. I will order the 1" standoffs. I am going with the Dubro light weight 5" wheels and PSP axles. I was going to use the Kavans but I have heard of a lot of people having issues with the big Kavans.

For those using other brands of engines, this doesn't apply...
The DA 100cc twin will be updated and loose weight
That may help even more .....
released in April???????
THats all...

I am hoping with the ES pipes on my DA-100 that will fo the trick. I cant see the DA-100 on stock mufflers having to much trouble as long as it is kept light.
There is a guy at the field that I fly with that has Carden Edge 540 getting close to the 30lb mark with a DA on stockk mufflers and it does pretty well.

Iwould think that it will not make a HUGE dif. between the one out now....
I am sure htat one could update there curent engine if they really desired too...
I for one have a Relitivly new DA100 with about 7-fights on it.... I am not going ot waste my money on new upgrades unless it will get rid of th midrange
Grubble....
I am ging to use Cf pipes or Grieves....

It looks like the new one does not have the integrated aluminium intake. It now has the red nylon, or what ever plastic type material between the case and carb. To upgrade you would need a new case or have the old one re-machined. I agree it would not be worth the cost of the upgrade for 6 ounces of weight savings. The new intake may git rid of the mid range grubble but I guess that remains to be seen. Not that it is that much of an issue but your tuned pipes may take care of that as well. The pipes will also take care of any power concerns. I think the main thing it will do is give those of us that don't see a big need to have the new engine a good deal on a used old style DA 100

Yeah, 6 oz isn't as impressive as 16 oz but it does all add up. I thought maybe they re-designed the whole crankcase but apparently they are just lightening the existing one.

If properly adjusted, your DA-100 will get rid of the mid-range burble after about 2gal and become smooth as a 4 cycle after 4gal. When you switch to 1:80 Amsoil mix, you might even pick up some rpm.

My DA 100 on ES pipes has no midrange burble, nor did any of my other two 100cc. Yarom is nialed it down, During break-in, because of the rich settings, the DA 100, like any other gas motor, will get a mid-range burble, which is normal. After break-in (as recommended by DA) I switched to Amsoil Sabre mixed with mid-grade fuel and 80:1 Amsoil. With the ES composite pipes, it really woke up the DA 100. On the ground I am turning a Vess 28B prop at 7500-7700 rpms. Can you say throttle management. The only problem I have with the ES pipes is, I had to dial up some throttle curve. The power came on strong at 3/4 throttle. Otherwise hovering was a real chore.
kochj, Seven flights is not enough flights. But enough to be able to lean out the needles a bit. The DA midrange burble can be tuned out with both low and high needles. Jus keep flying, after three-four gallons switch to Amsoil, 80:1, mixed with midgrade, do a little carb tuning, and you would swear it was a different motor. In addition, Depending on your flying style, and if you have tuned pipes or stock muffs, try a Vess 27B or 28B props., Just in the Vess prop chnage along, you would swear that you bolted on a turbo!!!!
As far as a stock DA on the 110" Yak, It should do fine. Just keep it very light!! I even think that a DA85 on tuned pipe on high test fuel mix, should give this big bird ample power!

FFH,
No question that any engine when placed with Tuned CF pipes is a monster!! No doubt....
Thank you for the advice about the props..... Is this on stock mufflers? or Tuned pipe?
I have had some horrible luck with engines and airframes this last year (2007) I would have thought that there was a hex on me!!!!
Hopefully 2008 means good luck....
My DA100 quit on me after it's 4-flight. I think it was too lean on idle and rich on High (on ashless lawnboy break in) right when I was doing a very slow flyby tring to get it ready to land and find out the planes stall attributes....
End result? Snaped fuse in half!!!!.. and damaged R-wing.....
I should have scraped the plane, but rebuilt it.... Had dead stick after dead stick.... (It was due to having the spark plug cap laying on the hot stack muffler///) This forced me to land hard, because I didn't want the plane to float by... and wouldn't you know?
Due to the R-wing repair it was way way too heavy, and the wing did not sit up next to the fuse so the wing was able to do this, very bad leverage thing on the CF maintube....
It caused cracking and weakining that I could not see.....
Got a new wing , took it up, and wouldn't you know.... The wingtube broke, and the wing departed from the plane way way up in the air at the top of the loop!!!!!!
Anyway..... I have a new plane and new cf wing tube.... and the DA engine was checked over and a new hub was placed on it....
My point is that the engine didn't seam to perform well but this was due to over weighted, repaired airframe and still breaking in engine.....
I will see how it goes the second time!!!!!!

Servo City is having a sale on Hitec servos. What does everyone think about 2 5985 per wing on A123 batteries or should I go with the 5955 on the wings too. Savings would only be about $50.
