Default Will this servos do the job

Hi there.

I just need to find out if the servos I purchased will do the job on the following aircraft:

Seagull Edge 540 77'' wingspan, to be powered by a RCGF 45cc engine. I purchased HS5645 servos - 1 per wing half, 1 per elevator half and one for the rudder on pull-pull system. A bit consirned on the rudder size servo, but I got no money to change it know. Will it work without failing due to being to small maybe is my question.

All new to gas and big planes. Also bought a Hobbico Hydrimax 4.8V 2000mah NimH battery for the receiver and a 1400maH for the igintion. Planning to fly 4-5 10min flights on a day...

Thanks
KARL

karldaschner the servos should be fine on the elevator and alierons. You are pushing the limit on the rudder. Those servos are on the slower side so I think that the best thing that you could do now is to change you battery from a 4.8 to a 6.0 volt battery.
At 4.8volts you will have 143oz of torque at .23sec
At 6.0volts you will have 168oz of torque at .18sec

So see what you will be missing out on if you dont spend the extra little money and go with 6.0 volts.

A TOC pilot might detect a little rudder blow back but that servo is totally safe on the rudder. No worries at all. Build it fly it.

I agree... upgrade the battery to 6.0v

I flew a similar sized plane with that setup for a summer. It will KE all day long and will do KE loops. There is a bit of blowback on the down side of the loop but nothing that makes it so you have to upgrade the servo. Fly it for now.. can always upgrade later.

Go with 6 volts and use the servos everywhere.

Thanks for the advice guys. Going to build it with what I got then see how it flies. Will upgrade to six volts as soon as I see or feel it does not respond well to rudder inputs. Because the knife edge is my favourite move I want it good. Will start to check out prices for 6v battery and the regulator.

Cheers
Karl
