Default RE: Hangar 9 Cap 232 120

Well, I'm back from my deployment. I haven't done anything with the CAP yet except pull all the main pieces out and set them where I could work on them.

I have been looking at other power options, though. While at the field this past weekend, I was told about the Wild Hare Baby planes. Those planes are about the same size (not sure of weight, though) as this CAP. I have read some reviews of those airplanes that say that the DLE 30 gas engine is an excellent engine for it. They're also saying that it's powerful enough to hover it at 1/4 throttle, but still light enough to where the plane's not a bugger to handle. I've compared the specs of the DLE 30 to the specs of the OS 1.60FX, and they're very close. The DLE 30 is a few ounces heavier, but both engines have the same amount of power at only about 500 RPM apart. At only $40-$50 more than a new OS 1.60FX, I'm seriously considering this motor now. I'll be doing a bit more research on it.

Attached is a pic of a simulated CS for this plane that shows how I want to cover it/have it covered. Thanks to Knife Edge Forums user twoelevn for creating the CS, and doing such an excellent job on it.

I had a Sig Cap 231EX W a ZDZ40 18x10 prop on it and that airplane flew with no limitations and will hover all day ay 1/3 throttle ano bad tendencies at all, No not even the snap out @ High G's. And this is a airplane almost identicle to the H9 Cap 232 with the exception of the Overcamber on the rudder with the H9 cap, If the airplane is set up properly and attention to detail on the build even a 50cc gasser will be ausome without any performance issues. Ive since given that airplane to my brother to help motivate him into getting him back into flying and it worked. Hes Crazy about the Cap and remains one of his very best performers. Im just now completing CHIP HYDE Cap X-232 and putting a RPro 45 in it. {{{{{{I have a bunch of 45's 53's and other engines round the shop Might as well use them up}}}}}} A little heavier than the ZDZ 40 but about the same weight as a 3MM 53 or a DA 50 and it turns a 20x8 Xoar @ 7300 out the box. this should be plenty of power to make it submit to the high G's its about to encounter. Ill let you all know on how this set up works out. Thanks Ron

To mydartswinger, i have a DLE 30cc V2, that i have sitting around and was going to put it in this plane. I just got one from a friend who started the project and didn't finish it. I am having trouble finding the canopy for it. My question was Hangar 9 has a 27% Cap they still sell parts for, in particular the canopy, part # HAN2909. Anyone know if this will fit?

Unfortunaltely it will not come close to fitting. Some time ago one of my flying buddies needed one and there just arent any good substatutes. He ended using foam and then sanded to shape fiberglassed and painted black. good luck

that's not good. I was thinking since its only 2% larger, it would be ok. I know great planes sells one too.

I know its an old thread, but I have come across a new kit that has an untouched Cowl, canopy, tail feathers and the fuse simply has the aluminum landing gear bolting on for sitting on the bench. located in WI. Pictures will follow shortly.
