Testors Tansparent Black Window Tint?
Has anyone used this stuff and if so how did it work out; and any tips on applying it other than just "spraying". I have a canopy I want to tint, don't want to do the "soak in dye" method; but don't want to ruin it with this spray stuff either.

Use very fine steel wool to CAREFULLY scuff the inside of the canopy..
tape off the rest of the canopy....
and remember you are spraying the inside of the canopy.

if you take the older non waterbase rc car body paints, and thin them down with the reducer/ thinner they make... you can use most of those colors as a tint. Practice on scraps first of course..Years ago I used to paint many lexan canopys, and tint a lot of heli canopy windshields. The nice thing about spraying the reduced tint with an airbrush is you can just tint around the edges, or across the top
(like a car windshield) there are many options...

Is there anything special that you do when using the rite die. I've used it before and seemed to work fine but now the China Models canopy that I have does not respond the same. Any idea?[]

Some plastics will take the rit dye and some will not, just have to test it. Get a test piece and get the water as hot as you can without it distorting the plastic.

I used an RC car body window tint...a smoked black...I forget exactly which brand. BUT, it turned out way toooooooo dark for my taste. I had wanted to install a pilot and see him inside the canopy, but after I sprayed for an even coat, it was too black to see the pilot. I left him out. So you'd think you could spray it lightly to effect a light tint? That is what I thought , and like someone said, it is splotchy, especially at first, so then you spray on more to get even coverage, and then you have deep black, haha. Maybe I didn't use Testors, but I don't recall. Good luck! Jon

I used the Testors Transparent Black Window Tint, and it came out blotchy. I cleaned the canopy well with alcohol to remove any oils or contaminants before spraying it. The first coat went on OK. I think the problem may have been that there was water or some other contaminant actually inside the spray can. I would think twice before using this brand of paint for tinting a canopy.

I use automotive clear with a drop or two of black or whatever color you want it to be, works like a champ.
