ORIGINAL: RichardGee Jaz, Sorry for the delayed response... The Flying Wire mounting bolts are 3mm. Here are two pix: I took the no response as I was barking up the wrong tree and reading too much into it so I drilled them all to 4mm a few days ago. Do you think that they are now all 4mm will be an issue?? The brass on the wire mount holes is a bit thinner now but still over a 1mm thick.I have had the wings on and tensioned since drilling them to see if they loosen up and it has held tension so far. Just in the process of fitting the side hatch at the moment.<br type="_moz" /> |

No harm... no foul!!;)
This now give you the opportunity to cut very short lengths of brass tubing and glue them into your flying wire mountiing holes in the wood blocks in the wing. Do this now, and you will NOT have to do it later!! You see, the extremely high tension and vibration of the flying wires makes the wooden holes OBLONG such that after some flying time, your flying wires will require tightening. IF you line the holes with short lengths of brass tubing, it will prevent this from happening and your flying wires will remain perfectly tensioned, while the wing holes will NOT wear out.;) |

What are those illuminum brackets on top of the landing gear struts, was that kitted or something you have added?

<div>Hi Guys,</div><div></div><div>Spent this evening with a new incidence meter checking the wires done by the previous owner and I have to de-solder and extend one lower hard wire plus replace the twisted braided wire on one side from the undercarriage to the fuse as it is way too short.</div><div></div><div>So some more questions.</div><div></div><div>I picked up a couple of the Benzomatic Nickel Silver brazing rods, do you think they would be ok for the wires? See photos for description.</div><div></div><div>How much of the soldered end of the wire would be safe inside the brass fitting? The one wire which needs extending has to come out around 3 to 4mm to get a safe bite on the threads.</div><div></div><div>As I have to replace one side of the braided wire, who would know of a suitable replacement without having to chase down a whole wire kit from CARF?</div><div></div><div>Thanks,</div><div></div><div>Jaz</div>

Hi Guys,
Could those who have completed the CARF Gee Bee post their final dry weight ready to fly? Mine with the DA150 with KS Alloy canisters less additional weight to balance comes in 16.295kg or 35.92lb. To balance as is with the tail setup as standard, no pilot and all the batteries mounted directly to the back of the engine dome it will require an additional 700 grams of weight in front of the engine. So I am going to move the switches and receiver forward in the fuse and lighten what I can in the tail. As well space the engine forward an additional 5mm which will not require mods to the canister exhausts. Even with moving this around and if I manage to get rid of the lead I cannot see this plane being 35 pounds or under. The plan is to maiden the plane sometime in the next couple of weeks then order the graphics to finish it off. Thanks, Jaz<br type="_moz" /> |

Hannes,
Would you be interested / willing to provide a set of your decals for a 26.5% GeeBee R2? I've got everything necessary to finish my scratch built geebee except paint and markings, and would love to get a set of your markings from it. Thanks, Thomas |
