Last one's for today, what do you guys think?

RE: composite arf yak?
would a 3w 120 on cans be crazy consideration for this plane???or is the da 100 choice?i wouldnt mind going with the BME 110....but do they carry cannisters for the engine yet?
|
RE: composite arf yak?
Im not sure about the BME im sure Jens could jump in and answer this question. I dont think the 3W 120 is crazy HP for this plane, im thinking of the DA150 :D The cowl opening is like 13 " inside diameter and the DA150 is 13.4 ". I see that Dick Hanson puts bigger engins in most of thier planes up there in the High Country. I personaly want some big power in my Yak, but really dont know what yet..?????
Tha DA100 is what this plane was designed around, it probably is the best choice??? We will see.... |
RE: composite arf yak?
i have one of these coming by the end of the month, maybe sooner.....it will be my back up for IMAC,but this will be my 3D plane for sure....just wasnt sure what the all up weight is with the 100 and cans....and that BIG cowling is going to rob alot of speed....maybe the 120 is the way to go?!
|
RE: composite arf yak?
OH YES BABY....
I'll tell you what I think..... I'm going to be losing sleep for the next few weeks until mine gets here. To everyone that has one coming from the second batch: When did your rep tell you yours would arrive? They told me to expect it last week of May or first week of June. How about everyone else. Also, what is everyone planning on using for rudder? 2 or 3 servos? I would like to use 2 5945's, but if 3 is necessary, then I would rather do that. Here's another question. What is everyone doing for radio set up? Single receiver, two receivers, OR a powerbox/DPSI unit, etc? Anybody? |
RE: composite arf yak?
First week in June I think, I will use two servos on rudder, 5945's or 8611.s not sure yet? Believe it or not this plane feels as light as the Extra 2.6m does.

RE: composite arf yak?
Darcy dude, they bloody sent my Yak to Vic he he, just can't gget enough he he, I mean wait he he. About cans for the BME110, Kris has posted a bunch on obtaining best results with cans on the 110. Basically use short headers and large cans, like what you would use for a 150-160cc engine, but he has it more specific in the gas engine forum. I will just run the stock mufflers on the BME, still thinking light, and it will still be plenty of power. If you can take rough measurements of root and tip and wing lengths, we can get a close idea of the wing area. If the wing area is close to 2000, a zdz160 could be a viable thing, just ask Dick Hanson he hee.

RE: composite arf yak?
I will measure as soon as I get the chance, but just by looking at the wings they look bigger. For sure the airfoil is thicker and the aileron is tapered. And the wing root has the most beautiful fillets.

ORIGINAL: xtra 330 i have one of these coming by the end of the month, maybe sooner.....it will be my back up for IMAC,but this will be my 3D plane for sure....just wasnt sure what the all up weight is with the 100 and cans....and that BIG cowling is going to rob alot of speed....maybe the 120 is the way to go?! I got to fly the prototype YAK and used to own the 33% CA Extra and the difference on downlines is very noticable. Kevin |
RE: composite arf yak?
Thanks for the pictures......
Just a heads up for guys considering a DA100 with long K&S tuned pipes. It appears that CA did not change the pipe tunnel from the protype bird. On the prototype, the tunnel had to be lengthened around 6" to accomodate the length of the pipe. Kevin |
RE: composite arf yak?
Based on the pictures, the baby YAK will take more time to finish than it's big brother.
1. The cowling vents need to be dremeled out and attached. 2. The canopy has to be mounted and the tabs attached to the canopy frame for mounting to the fuse. 3. The nose cowl ring has to have the attachment fittings put on so the it stays on. 4. The control arms need to be attached to the control surfaces. 5. Didn't notice a rudder tray....maybe it's in the hardware package. Still can't wait to get mine and get started! You guys are going to love this plane. Kevin |
RE: composite arf yak?
Hey Darcy,
Thanks for the pics. Can you shoot some of her "together" ?? Really looking forward to mine turning up now! Think this is gonna be the "must have" for this summer! Rgds, Mark |
RE: composite arf yak?
Yeah the rudder tray is in pieces, you have to build it and mount it. It appeirs that it will take as long as the 2.6m Extra. The tunnel will accept Canaster Mufflers but like you said it will need to be extended if Full length pipes are used.
All in all it really looks good in person! |
RE: composite arf yak?
Which size is this?
|
RE: composite arf yak?
The new 33% 2.6m version.
|
RE: composite arf yak?
Schroedm I will get some more pics as soon as Vic cleans his work shop, then we will mock it up and get more shots.

Master Builder Vic started building the 2.6m Yak today, he said the parts fit is unbelievable. The wings fit sweet, the gear needed alittle shaping but fit nice. Here is a few more pics of the project.

RE: composite arf yak?
Kevin- you'r right! It WILL take alot more time. All of the things you mentioned have to be done, PLUS, build the tank(s)mount, throttle servo mount, and yes, the rudder servos mount.
The REAL disapointment was the cowl vents. They are vacuumed formed and not even trimmed to fit the cowls shape, PLUS you have to cut each vent out! Important for proper cooling. There are ALOT of vents!! Besides the size difference, all of that is finished on the big Yak. ( hence the big price tag ) But I still enoy the building. I already have the control horns in the control surfaces, the rudder servos mount and the tank mount finished. The landing gear is on, and I started on the canopy........tomarrow is another ( building ) day. I'll keep 'ya updated. Vic |
RE: composite arf yak?
Vicster,
Could you elaborate a little on the cowl vent drilling? Maybe a pic of what exactly has to be drilled out? Procedure? I want to be ready to do mine right, without messing it up, and making it look ugly! Thanks for the help. |
