The BEST Smoke System
What do you guys think is the best and why?
I'm looking for something for my ZDZ 120. |
RE: The BEST Smoke System
tme simple smoke, or sullivan skywriter are probably the two most popular

RE: The BEST Smoke System
Is the slimline showtime worth having? I haven't got one yet, but I will soon. I think it's against the law to have a big biplane without smoke.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
Try a 3W smoke pump,,just like the old Harris pump you cant get anymore,,no extra battery,,just plugs right in the reciever,,gets its power straight from that,,,you talk about make smoke,,,cant beat um

RE: The BEST Smoke System
For me the best is the one that works when it is needed. Today I just finished testing a re-installation of an old Benett system on my 35% Extra with a Brison 6.4 twin. The TME went south for the second time even with major shock mounting. The old system requires a crankcase tap plus a servo to run the control valve for the diaphragm pump. The system seems to work fine even after sitting for about 8 years.
Doing another one I would go with the electric pumps again but would try another brand for a change. ORIGINAL: mrbigg What do you guys think is the best and why? I'm looking for something for my ZDZ 120. |
RE: The BEST Smoke System
I use the SkyWriter by Sullivan and it works great. I have on in my 31% Staudacher for about 4 years now and one in my new 27% CA 300L. A 6v battery should be used on these systems for best results though. I'm not sure what the Slimline system uses.

Which one of them two were having problems.

I use Don Harris pumps. Hard to find, but they do work.
I suspect the 3W pump works well too. |
RE: The BEST Smoke System
The power Box pump has my vote.
|
RE: The BEST Smoke System
We used a SLimline and it packed up after 5 hrs flying.
|
RE: The BEST Smoke System
how was the slimline, I want one, they look nice, what do you mean by packed up? how much amperage draw does the 3W pump need?
|
RE: The BEST Smoke System
Packed up= quit working, kapooey, **** up, broken, no workee no more!!;)

RE: The BEST Smoke System
I have two planes w/ smoke set up and one Slimline Showtime Pro. Its self contained, has its own battery and treat it as a servo. Smoke intesity can be set while flying. Swapping the pump between the two airplanes are a snap. About 30 flights on it and still going strong. Both planes use Slimline Smoker muffs and use Super Dry Aviation Smoke.................tons of Smoke.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
After trying a bunch of pumps, I found the Don Harris pumps to be the best. When I heard they were going away, I bought 3 spares and put them on the shelf for future projects. After 5 years of using them, I've never had a complaint with them.

Don Harris punps are the best, IMO.
|
RE: The BEST Smoke System
I'll second the Harris! Great pump.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
Where do you get the Harris?

RE: The BEST Smoke System
The local LHS just reopened and he has 2- TME Simple Smoke pumps on the wall. Do these work well and can you adjust the flow rate?
|
RE: The BEST Smoke System
The only flow rate adjustment on the TME pumps is with a manual screw type restrictor that clamps over the line. Takes a couple of flights to get it dialed in just right, but the pumps work very well.

RE: The BEST Smoke System
Just checked TME's website and they have a new "Smart" pump with adjustable flow rate. Check the link.[link=http://www.tmenet.com/smartsmoker.htm]TME[/link]
