Are they the coate variety like Don's Hobbies sells?

You have to be careful with bare Kevlar as it abraids quite easily... if there is any touching at all on the exiys you can get inoy trouble... I understand the coated variety are resistant to it...

Hello to eveyone! you might remember me from the 87" yak build thread!
well, I just sold my 87" fueselage to a close friend.. so I ordered a new 88" to Chris! so I will be building mine soon! I did not participate at this 88" tread before as I didnt want to read all the good things about this new yak making me buying it and having 2 50cc yaks!
so I have some quiestions..I am going to install all the equpment from my 87" yak since I sold only the fuselage.. I will be using the DA-50 since I allready have it! but now I am going with the pipe!
what pipe are you using with the DA? is the KS 1060 still the best choice? I also noticed that now you are using 1.5 servo arms at the ailerons, I was using 1.25, do you get more throw with this 1.5 arms? or will the 1.25 do the job?
also I have the SWB pull pull servo arm that we all used on the 87" yak, but I dont remember if this one is 4" (I dont have my yak with me) like the one you are using now..
I am asking this to start making my list of the things I will have to buy!

What is a good tailwheel assy I can replace the stock one with? I lost the tailwheel with the wire so I'm just gonna replace the whole thing. I'd like to find something that didn't count on set screw holding the thing on.

Dave Patrick makes a very nice one, with trailing camber built in , for smooth-over bumps. THe style of tailwheel provided is not my favorite either, but, I decided to use it. I washered both sides, and dremeled a groove in the shaft for each set screw, not giving them any wiggle room to come apart. ever.

The real way to improve ths tailwheel assy is a brass eyelet throught the hole , peened over , so the rotating shaft isn;t sawing through the CF. As tight as I have made the tolerances on mine..it is already hogging out, slanting and canting. My rough field is hell on anything.



18mph but subsiding this afternoon. My EF Reject and DL50 will get windy afternoon duty,....and when the sock drops at sunset....the flight of the Bumble Yak will commense.

Having to stay on the porch here as well. Well, really the garage. Flags are standing straight out.

Just replaced the tail wheel with a Klett wheel. I hate flat foam tires. Lost the steering rod last flight, so I drilled out the hole slightly and inserted a 2-56 rod with threaded end and threaded it into the hole, secured with blue loctite, and cranked the set screw down like no tomorrow. I am sure I will replace the whole setup sometime as the CF wears at the axle.

Making new gasket for the DA50 today. Might see about the Permatex copper high temp stuff though.

I used the stock tailwheel one time and replaced it with the Ohio Super Star - http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXBN42&P=ML

Here are some pics. I've used this same tailwheel on several planes and like it a lot. An no I don't know how much it weighs..nor do I care.. :):D

I'm just starting to install servos and this is the first time I have used SWB arms. Is the clamp action you get from the socket head screw enough to hold the arm in place or do you also use a screw through the top of the arm like a stock servo arm.

I use both....I put a little drop of blue lock tite on the screw that holds the stock servo arm on. That split system on the spline was never meant to hold the arm on...just to make the spine fit tight (thank JR).

No you need to use both the top screw and the clamp screw, that's why they call them "Double Lock Servo Arms", it's an added layer of proection.

I managed to get one flight in when the wind was calm. After fixing the stabs, I went from 8 clicks of up to 3. my radio is set at 1 click = 4 trim steps. At hands off flight she wants to drop ever so slightly. At 4 clicks she wants to climb, so I need to chage my trim step in my radio and fine tune it. Never thought to do the down thrust test in the air, When I checked the thrust with the meter it was reading zero. I will double check when I get time or after I get a chance to test it in the air. Got a second flight in but is was very windy, maybe 15mph cross wind. It wasn't that windy when I took off [&:]. Lucky I got it down with the cross wind, that whole flight was playing with the wind,or should i say fighting it. I can live with 14-15 trim steps, 32 was too much for my liking. Oh, hands off inverted. With it droping ever so slightly upright, I think once i get the trim just right I will need very very little down to keep her level. Cg is all good, This plane flat spins inverted so slow and flat its Beautiful.
The landing gear is a little flimsy but I think that is a good thing. I would rather bend it back on a rough landing then damage the fuse.
I guy at the field could not believe that it only had a 50 in it. He said " that things HUGE for a fifty". I'm Happy with this Plane, she a keeper.;)

i know this thing is big, but in the pics it looks huge, maybe the camera lense or something, maybe my eyes tonight, almost looks out of praportion or something.....looks good though

Check out the Tailwheel assemblies at RCBlimp Productions.Com. He has two
styles. The Version 2.0 Carbon Fiber Plate or the Titanium Wire type. Both are
strong, light weight and guaranteed for life. Pictured below is the small size
Version 2.0, perfect size for the Yak 88 incher. Mine was painted Yellow, standard
color is Black.

Hey guys I am considering getting on the list for this baby. Do you think the Brillelli 50 will be enough for this bird? It is comparable to the DA 50 in power and weight. I picked one up new in box at a good deal. I don't know if I can wait on the Extra or not. lol

I had a 23x8 menz on another plane and liked it.

Wanted another of those, but this was all the hobby shop had in a 23x8.

I saw Whirly's maiden...perfect checkout...smooth maiden. 3d'ing right after level trim out and shakedown.

That Beila was spinning at 6690, Whirly's DA is just out of break-in from last season and still very new.

Whirly maidened in 12mph and variable . He commented that the Biela seemed to make a lot of thrust even at low rpm.

I flew my Patched up Bumble Yak after him. It was uneventful except thati zeroed the trim out and needed to punch up to factor 24 to get level. I never adjusted my stabs.....maybe some rainy day.

I flew twice and even bounced her an inch on roll out....repair held fine. I got video of the first flight after the repair, and when I blendered it and flipped it, I told Whirly to keep filming even if it comes apart!!...LOL.


I was worried after the repair about the wing socket and gear joint....so, I drilled and pinned the rear anti-rotation pins. I would never have done that if I hadn't been digging around in the belly fixing her. But, after a repair to the core what holds it together, I figured , better safe than sorry.

When the Big One comes along.....that will be the Topper. Until then this one is Tops in my book.
