RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
From trying to fly a GP giant udo with this engine. Now that is one fragile bird. The thick ones in the back are from conveyor belting. The front are mudflaps.

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Does the motor shake more with the rubber mounts? Ive seen lot of engines with other type of dampers and they shook like crazy.. I also thought that twins shake less then singles.
I know that slimline wont warrenty their mufflers if used on a soft mounted motor.. Something about the muffler can't keep up with the motor shake and will eventually rip the muffler from the bolts. Just wondering. If it works for you then it's perfect..:D Cya.. X |
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
I had it in a GP ulti and there was no shaking. 0 vibes at above idle. It would shake if the idle got too low. Ridiculous power in either plane. Mucho excited about how this plane will cary it's weight. However the Ulti flew lighter with this engine than it does with a 50cc ZDZ. Should get to fly it this weekend and I'll post weight and prop speeds with this airframe.

I just noticed too altavillan that your fueler is mounted on the silver trim line. I mounted mine 1.5" below that c/l line.
Gee, and don't ask why!? :D Josey (yours looks to be close to where mine is) and Xtraflyr- where is your fueler in relation to the silver trim line? Something tells me mine will be the lowest! |
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
anyone know the size of the allen key used on the collars and the tail connector on the tail wheel assembly?
I've tried 1/16 5/64 and 1.5 and 2mm but none fit! J |
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Bigger hammer.................. You will want to get the spring rod holder off and grind a flat spot.

Here is my 88" EF Yak. Mostly built by the book, but I did make a pretty cool carbon fiber baffle for the cowl.
Steps for the carbon fiber sheet... 1. One peice of glass about 2' by 1.5 feet. 2. Use Maguires #8 mold release carnuba wax and wax the entire surface 3 to 4 times and buff 3. I brushed a coat of west epoxy on the glass and let it set for 2 hours (I think this lets all the air bubbles escape and the glue gets a little tacky at this point. 4. I layed the first layer .010 thick and coated it with west epoxy and added the 2nd layer 5. I layed the 3rd and 4th layers and again brushed on west epoxy between layers 6. Let it dry...and dry....and dry...I used slow epoxy which I let cure over night... 7. Cut the circle and trim to fit 8. I used aeropoxy to glue it in place. I also used a bead of silicon glue between the cowl and carbon fiber...this gives some flex...the aeropoxy sandwiches the baffle between the glue and cowl...very sturdy... |
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Thats looks awesome..[X(] It really rounds out the carbon fiber spinner and prop...
Very Nice, Frank |

Hey Yakkers..
You guys with the DA50 on a tuned pipe... Did we ever come to a decision on props, Xoar,Mejzlik,Vess ect.. Size 22x8,23x8? Right now Im using a Mejzlik 22x8 and it pulls it around great, pull out is ok, not outstanding like Chris's prototype in the vids. but not horrible, enough to get you outta trouble.. Plus it's all I have right now..:D Cya,Frank |
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
I am using a Mejzlik 23 x 8...pull out is great on the ES Composites pipe. I am temporarily going to switch to the TBM 22 x 8 for break in...then back to the Mejzlik....

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Hey guys,
If you are using the ES Composite pipe or any tuned pipe, the best prop is the VESS 23B. I used to be a hardcore composite prop guy, using the Meijlik and Beila 23-8 props, but when a buddy of mine handed me one to try, I was sold after the first flight. Pulls with authority on the up lines, 3D power is exceptional, and rockets out of a hover like nothing else. I did the same with my 100cc Yak and installed a VESS 27B, Same thing. Its like adding turbo boost with just a prop change. check out this video from my EF 88" Yak at the last show at Roar & Soar at Fantasy of Flight Aviaiton Museum. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZyHDgg9JH4 Try it once, and I promise you you will never look at another prop. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jps3cDMJnm4 No matter the power plant. Vess is the best choice. IMO Plus if you ever meet the guy he is a true to the hobby flying with the guys each weekend where he lives. Kinda like Chris Hinson he is really into the sport. I do't mind paying the extra few dollars on a quality product to support someone like that in the hobby. He is a nice guy too!! Richard |

DA-50, MTW pipe, Vess 23A/B (either one.) Dry weight just under 18#.
