Default Storing Giant Scale By The Tail

Trying to figure out some storage options and I see a lot of planes suspended by the tail. Can you do this with giant scale planes? I have a 1/3 scale Flybaby Bipe, which is my largest plane and the one I am concerned about.

Thanks...

Mike

I have a 1/3 & 1/4 size WWI planes and would NOT even consider hanging them, way too much weight for the tail feathers to support. Why not just tip it up on it's nose and put a piece of foam under the spinner and or what ever touches the ground and store it that way.
Just my 2 cents worth

That is what I thought.... Will try the ceiling suspension.

Thanks so much for the suggestions.

They can be suspended by the tail if necessary. At best, it's no different than standing in front of the stab when running up the engine, minus the vibration. Nose into a pilow on the floor is best, but make do as your space requirements dictate.

Another few options from this Web Site http://www.jlproducts.net/index.html Look at the 'SKY-Hanger', 'SKY-Port' and 'SKY-Hook. I use the 'SKY-Hanger' & 'WING Rack' in my Garage, they work great and I also use the 'EASY-Rider' in my Trailer.

Thanks for the link, looks like they have a lot of different ideas that help.

I ended up building a "U" out of PVC for one of my large aircraft that I could store with the wings on and attaching that to the ceiling and then a pulley system for the Flybaby since I did not want to have to put the wings on when I would have to take them off again to transport and they are much harder to assemble. Now to build something for the wings.

Thanks again. Just starting in this large scale flying and still figuring out the ropes.

one bad thing about nose standing the plane is that the clunk may deform the fuelline and keep the clunk high and forward in the tank.

Great point foodstick. Maybe hanging them from the landing gear with tailpointing down would be an alternative. This issue with the fuel tank pick up tube is a vaery valid point.

It is possible to warp your tail if you hang the plane from it..The tail is strong enough but prolonged weight bearing could cause it to warp...I think I would try and make something to catch the landing gear and support the plane that way...I am always looking for more space...I have them hanging from the ceiling in the living room , from the ceiling in my shop ,from the walls in my shop , under the work benches , in the basement , everywhere , My wife is so good about it..She knows them all and their names , She laughs about how many there are...She is just happy that I am doing this and not something else

I hang my planes by the prop by making a loop out of nylon cord. My shop has a tall ceiling with exposed steel trusses. The cord loops around the prop right at the hub so there's no strain or distortion of the prop itself. Been doing it for years. Remember the opening of the movie "Coma"? Kinda looks like that with five or six planes hanging vertical. Mitch
