Default Ailerons for Balsa USA 1/3 Sopwith Pup

This will be my first giant scale plane and I'm in the process of researching equipment needed. Right now I'm trying decided on servos. Anyone have any recommendations? Is there a servo rule of thumb for a plane this size (1/3 scale - 108")?

The best bang for your $$$ are these standard size metal gear Spektrum 6150 servos. They are $37.00 each and at 6 volts they produce 140 Oz of torque. They can also be run on 7.4 volt non regulated and produce 180 oz of torque.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Below is what I'm leaning towards.

Hitech HS-5645MG (164oz@6V) - Ailerons/Throttle
Hitech HS-5805MG (343oz.@6V) - Elev/Rudder

Thanks. I mostly have Futaba servos, but I've used Hitech in the past with absolutely no issues. Plus, the price on these is better compared to Futaba servos with similar torque ratings.

I have had no trouble with one Hitech 645 per side at 4.8 volt...and here is on board video to prove it

The takeoff is a little ABRUPT, I hadn't flown it in almost two years.....

The main reason I'm pushing a 6 volt system is the safety factor.I lost my Giant scale Aeromaster to a 4.8 volt system that went week on the third flight of the day. It's a good feeling watching the needle peg over with a full charge still after 4 flights.jeffo

I am definitely FOR overkill for any safety reasons.. I have no problem with making things strong and safe.. I was just coming from the angle of when this kit came out there were probably 30 oz servos on 4.8 flying them

and thanks R-Duhb !

Foodstick, I really like the color scheme! How hard/easy was it to paint the symbols on the wings?

Here's my BUSA 1/3 Pup...powered originally by a GT-80, with Hitec 5645's ............ they have no problem handling the load

Now flying with a BME 116 for a little more 'oomph' ;-)

Sweet plane and video. Now that song is going to be stuck in my head ALL DAY!

By the way, are you running the 5645s on all control surfaces?

Once the BME116 is installed and the Pup is back in service I'll be re-branding it with a new logo and song to go along with it.....stay tuned ;-)

R-Duhb,
I think its pretty easy to paint fabric roundels.. they aren't always dead on perfect..but I bet the original ones weren't either

I usually draw out the roundels on thick paper/light cardboard.. cut them out for stencils..lay them on the wing and trace...Then I paint them on with hobby acrylics using a small foam brush...

I think I'll give it a try. I'd prefer painting over decals.
Another question....What's the wing chord length and how long are the wings panels? I know the total length is 108", but that includes the center panel. Thanks again!!

Nice flying, the GT-80 looked like plenty of power to me, but the 116 will definitely wake that Pup up. By the way, what's that long silver thing on your xmitter?
