Default pneumatic retracts........ start up?? who would be interested

ok, bear with me a moment. I've been out of the hobby since 09 and I'm trying or looking into getting back in. I have 2 Ziroli warbirds in boxes that need retracts. I think to myself no problem ill just order them. LOL!!! only to find out Robart and Century jet retracts are out of business. WTH!!! doesn't seem like anyone is making them but sierra and he doesn't stock much.

So here is my question. I don't consider myself a smart guy, but I can figure things out. it seems like every other post in here is looking for retracts for there plane. If I was to figure out how to make them and start this up, how many would be interested?? I have no idea the time, what's involved, where to get stock from, but if there is enough people interested I would dig in and figure it out, not only for me, but for all that needed them.

so let me here your thoughts, good and bad....is this a stupid idea??

I don't like to discourage anyone from starting a business. But I think the retract building business takes so much equipment, and the market has shrunk. That to attempt it without serious knowledge of all the manufacturing process would be nearly impossible.. What really make it tough is so many people wanting distinctly different designs.

Check out Hi Viz R/C. They are trying to do what you are considering, and have tried to continue the Robart line. Not sure where they are at, but might be worth a phone call.

Best way is to get a hold of all the Robart CAD drawings and have them manufactured overseas to keep the cost down. Just like the ARF business model. I does make financial sense to manufacture here in the US , the sell price will be astronomical.
