Anyone have first hand experience w/ these: http://www.rcguys.com/S1Pitts.htm ??

Reading thru the manual (available on their site) it sure looks like a nice plane at a fair price. Perfect fit for a large Moki or small gasser. I sure like the carbon fiber pushrods!!

Is RC Guys a good outfit?

68 and 3/8 top wing with a 12" cord is just a snitch over 816 squares

65.75" bottom wing with 12" cord is about 789 squares

Thats gonna be over 1600 squares. If it REALLY weighs 14 pounds RTF--should be a floater. I'd slap a 50cc engine in there.

I think they would have sold a bunch ( at least one more to me ) if they had just went with a more traditional color scheme.

Yup, not my first choice in color schemes either, but not bad. What about the company? Anybody know if it's a good outfit. Anybody building one care to comment on the kit quality or flight qualities??

This one has me tempted, but after being disapointed w/ the flight quality of the GP Christen Eagle, I'd like to hear from someone who's actually built/flown one before taking the plunge.

Luvbipes, there has been a discussion on this forum, as you probably know, about the GP Eagle. I happen to own a GP Eagle, I flew it this morning, in 10-15 mph quartering wind, I even turned it over to a comrade who is interested in getting into larger aircraft. He flew it for about 3 min. but I think I probably have it set up quite sensitive, but he got along very well. I have not,(knock on wood) had any of the experiences alot of guys have had. I have not had any of the dreaded brackets break, but I credit my experience with my plane on the fact that the 50cc engine I started out with was just plain to much engine, I swapped it out for a BME 2.8 twin, and have been very impressed with the overall performance of the Eagle, it flies quite fast, tumbles like a champ, goes straight up, not out of site but it is impressive. The Pitts, Eagles, will never do 3-D because they are too short coupled.

I'm actually pretty happy with the FLIGHT quality of the GP 1/3 Pitts.

The construction quality was what had me spittin' nails. I was NOT at all impressed with the quality of the design. Thats another thread though............

But, it DOES fly nice. It will just ball itself up in a knot if you start stirrin' the sticks real quick. I love the way a short coupled bipe tumbles and flops around. It just kinda wiggles around in the air, but it holds a line. I need plenty of right rudder on vertical lines or it will darn near do a hammerhead all by itself. [sm=72_72.gif]

I'd love to swap my GP Pitts for this one from RCGUYS. It's got a lot of wing area and if it comes anywhere close to the advertised weight, it'll be a floater. My GP Pitts only has 1303 squares and it's every bit of 17 or 18 pounds. This one from RCGUYS has over 1600 squares and a claimed weight of 14 pounds. Makes my heart go pitter patter. [sm=tongue_smile.gif] Gawd, even if it's up to 17 pounds, it'll still fly like a dream.

I stick to my opinion regarding the GP Eagle, but what about the Andy Sheber's Pitts ARF by RC Guys ??!! Guess no one here is working on one yet, huh??

I have one of the r c guys pitts bipe. I am very pleased with it. i have a tarten twin in it. just not sure of size. i think possibly 2.7 I have not weighed it . I do not do lot of hot stuff but i like it very much. There was no problems with assembling it. directions were easy to understand. I did not see any thing that needed reinforcing. only change i made was with rudder. i went with rod instead of the pull pull cable. the carbon fibre rods are nice and they shared with me the place that you can buy them over here in the states.I broke the spar that joins the top wings together and mailed them . they sent me replacement part in record time and the price was very reasonable. I would not hesitate to buy another one

I am thinking about getting this plane. I also thought about buying the m-12 pitts from COX, but the price difference is quite a big difference.. 200 more for the m12. They both have the same wing area but this 33% rcguys has a lighter plane.... IT must just float like crazy! I would think it would be a great plane for anything you can do and then some...
Anyone that has it taken some picts yet? Post them please!

I have also been looking at this plane. I haven't had a bipe in a long time. At 12-14 lbs a 40cc should fly it pretty good I would think. I just happen to have a Brillelli 40cc that will swing a XOAR 20X8 prop really nice. Like kochj said, if anyone has any pics please post them and the engine that you used and any pros and cons about the plane.

I picked the fuji 43ei2 for my RC guys pitts.
So far the plane appears to be well built. I beefed up the engine box but I think just about everyone does for larger planes.

Zippi I am in the process of building this plane, so far I have no complaint's I'm going to put a Brrillelli 46 in it. I hope to keep the weight at 15 or 16lbs

It'll be several weeks before the snow is gone here in Ottawa. But the plane will be ready when the field is. Video will follow. Be nice to see someone else's fly.
I'll weigh the plane tonight with everything mounted,... not sure what to expect.I hope it's under 17 pounds.

Just received my Pitts today! Since nobody has done it, I think i'll do an assembly thread for everyone. For starters, the plane arrived quickly and in good condition. It was double boxed and well packed with cardboard dividers in the carton and all of the pieces individually wrapped. Impressive, some of the other companies should take notes. After unpacking I weighed all of the parts and the plane and hardware in the box came in at 7lbs 12 oz. I will be putting a Saito 300T on it (61 oz) and even with that big motor I believe that I will be able keep the AUW under 15lbs.
Some of the goodies:
Hitec 5625 servos mounted in the back for elevators
Hitec 5625 ailerons
Hitec 5645 for rudder
Saito 300 Twin
Onboard glow
Probably won't get too much done this week but I'll get started in earnest this weekend

I've flown for 3 years and can do well with aerobatics and a little 3D. The biggest plane I've flown has been a 40 size Twist with a Saito 82 in it. I'd love to try this plane as my first gasser. I've always loved the look of the Pitts over other Bipes. Do you think this would be taking too big of a step?

I have put off buying this plane for a long time now simply because of the color scheme. What are your "real life" impressions of the color ? I keep coming back too it as a future home for my Saito 270.

I was not real impressed with the color scheme when I first saw it, but the wife and my little girl really liked it. After having seen it however, I'm really starting to like it. I think it will show up well in the air, it is very different than any of my other planes and it looks much better than the pics. Also, the plane in the video on their website was powered by a Saito 300 so i think it will be a good powerplant for the plane.
Bob, I'll give a more informed opinion after I fly it, but I'm not sure I would go for a bipe as a first giant scale gasser, especially one with such a short tail moment. OTOH, with the low wing loading on this plane it should be a piece of cake, and bigger planes are easier to fly.

Well, when the plane is together, the color (like it or not) is not too much of an issue. I obviously don't mind it as you can see,... It's just about ready to fly.
I weighed it last night complete,.. 15 pounds with a Fuji 43ei. I was quite happy with that weight. It was missing the throttle servo mind you but what's a few ounces.
In this picture the cowl is only taped on.

Trust me the color will grow on you. At first I thought the planes colors were very mixed, but after staring at it for hours upon hours, you begin to really like the scheme.

Did you notice that the wheels and wheel pants are so wide that the 2" long axle wont' let you center the wheel inside the pant? (it's too short?).

I always like the axle to fit into a ply block in the outboard inside faces of the pants, so I made an extension by soldering a brass tube to the collar. I use Sullivan axle clamps, but I think this would work no matter what method you use.

I was going to use the longer Dubro 1/4" axles, but they're almost double the weight of the supplied 3/16" axles.
