RE: Airworld Gee Bee R3 build
My friend had one of these planes. It flew well but fast. He said to just becarful with the thing during turns as it needs ( in his opion) more vertical stab area. He said it was a handful to fly for him. He flew it only 3 times before he decided it was time to sell the airframe while it was still in perfect shape.
Best of luck with your new project...the Gee Bee R3 is such a beautiful plane. enjoy!!

For those that would like to know, Jaketab took photo's of his Build (~320 pictures) and put them on a CD for me.
Then he made a Copy of assembly CD also! And I do have mine started!

Hi,
I have the same tail wheel mount on mine. How did you fix it in the airplane?
Jaketab, Geir,
Did you have the same system?
Working on the engine mount and the cowl this week-end....
Thank you
Pierre

Hi,
We found that we have quiet a lot of work to fit well the aileron but no weak spot.
Elevator, the inner hinges ( the one close to the fuselage) has to be cut very short due to the spar ( we may be have 5mm inside the stabilizer).
We are planing to use the fuselage to support the hinges axes... ( I'm not quiet sure i'm clear ?)
I can post some pictures...
Do your wires have the good length? We can not fit ours on the plane .....

Hello Pierre-
I haven't had a chance to fit the flying wires yet as I'm building it inside in a small room. I'm working one component at a time right now. I'll try to get it all together and fit check the wires. Il let you know what I find out.
A few pictures of your control horn setup would be helpful.
Thanks, Gregg (geebeeman)

Hi Gregg,
What pictures of control horn do you need? Wings, flaps, ... The rudder is a bit of a mess...one is missing in the Kit.
I'll try to take some for you.

Hi,
I'll send you pictures next week when I'll be back home.
But we used Hysol 6492 to Glue them inside the "Hole". It was done in 2 steps, Small amount of glue first to place them in the right position and the, fill the hole with Hyso.
We choose that glue just because it is thixotropic ( Kind of gels, quiet viscous), and slow cure ( 24hrs). So it was easy to ajust the position and fill the gap. The glue just stay there, it doen't run away.
I'm hope you understand my French- english :-)
You can find it there: http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/Hysol-9462
It is a bit expensive but I have been using that glue for a while and I love it.
I'll send you pictures early next week.
Have a good WE,
Pierre

recently built and finished my geebee r3 (its the yellow and black pseudo WW1 Model on airworlds customers model area), some of its features are truly excellent, some, not so good, the rigging wires are superb but the ali fittings that bolt to the spats and fuzz are useles, replace them with stainless or you will turn them to toffee on anything but the most perfect landing.
It does fly superbly (i have a 260 7cyl in mine) and is very quick, (the rigging wires at speed make the engine sound like its supercharged!!) i found the recommended rates way too low for my liking but that could be(on elevators at least) that i ensured it was balanced at 5.5 in from L.E.so was a bit nose heavy but its definately the way to go, with the evo radial in the front, i still had 3 flight batts at the back under the pilot(the Rocketeer!!)
there is no noticable pitch change when flaps are deployed but power needs to be kept up as it will fly very slowly but its sink rate is very high with the flaps down, nearly caught us out on test flight but all was good(the sink rate is what gives it its reputation for bouncing, the undamped springs just bounce it straight back in the air if you try landing too slowly)

Hi,
Good to hear you finish your plane. I stuggle a bit doing the end of mine..
Still the tail wheel to go and some wiring adjustment..
What is the weight of yours?
I'm already at 25kg before painting ! It seems to be heavy ..
What tail wheel did you use?
Are you from germany? I'd love to see you flying...
Thank you,
Pierre

Mine weighs exactly 25 kilos ready to fly, the tailwheel is used directly from the kit and is great, i ran an extra set of wires from the rudder servos and routed them over a home made pulley to improve the angle and smoothness, it works a treat, am in England.
One thing i wasnt impressed with was the rudder horn mount, theres now way i was going to rely on even hysol to bond the horn to the flims skin and limited leading edge so i cut a small square and installed a full length former into the rudder onto which the horn is bonded, , i have 2 hv 8611's on the rudder and if i want to or need to bang it over, i know the horn will hold.
